Good luck, man.
Try car dealerships as well. My first job out of high school was in the parts dept. I was a delivery driver and stock person...
Maybe you can get into an apprenticeship program. Check with your local union halls....electrical, carpenters, etc. Just a few suggestions. Keep all your options open.
You don't sound like a stupid person. Show confidence...also, knowing people that work in various trades may help open doors for you. That's what ultimately helped me get into the electrical union.

Call the guy that offered you 1500 for the car. Tell him 2000 then settle on 1800ish.

1700-1800 cash is a real good 2 weeks salary extra that would help your family out if things are bad.

That's a better start than working at a fast food joint...plus there's probably benefits that you won't see at a crappy, part time fast food job.

Hell yeah it is, I started with conway freight after I got out of the Air Force as a dock worker at $14 an hour just to get my foot in the door, now I'm almost at top pay as a driver at $24.50 an hour. Got to start somewhere, and it ain't gonna be easy no matter where you go.

Good luck, Mr. Sony, I have been in some precarious situations, especially when I got out of the Navy. The best advice I can give, I know it sounds stupid, is to stay and think positive. Life is tough, sometimes you just have to deal with what you've been dealt.

For a young man starting out, that's not a bad start. As you said, you have to start somewhere...even you decide to do something else down the road.

I admit, when I was 18 yrs old, I had no idea what the heck I was going to do with my life.

Title says it all. Long story short, as you all know my car bit the dust again. It is my first car, and it's like part of the family. Something most of, if not all of you don't know, is that shortly after my car broke down again, my stepdad who is recovering from Multiple Myeloma (bone marrow cancer) had a few seizures, one at home and one at the hospital. He is getting better, but he is forbidden by law to drive anywhere for anything. If he is caught driving there would be serious consequences, even worse he could have another seizure behind the wheel with my sisters and brother in the car. I ask you guys to help me out not as a greedy, broke 18 year old, but as a broke 18 year old who is tired of seeing his mother worked to the bone trying to support a 6 person family on a single 9-5 job, while being the only person in my house that is legally able to drive, while also having a vehicle. And before you comment, yes I have been looking for a job. I've been looking since August in fact. General Stores, super markets, fast food joints, hardware, video game, electronic stores, you name it; I've applied and had interviews. Not a single one has ended in success, but I'm still trying as I type this. I don't expect to get anywhere near my goal, most of which will go towards helping my parents out as much as possible until I graduate highschool and can get an actual full time job, but any donated at all will be a huge help. I feel like an *ss asking for what is basically a hand out, but it's one of the only options I have left. The page itself is titled "Help Me Fix My First Car".

Thanks for reading.
LISTEN TO THIS! i was in the same situation a few months ago, i had no job, but HAD to get one if i wanted to be able to drive my car. i applied to many places but no one would call back, finally i get a call from this grocery store named dierbergs, went to the interview extremely nervous, sweat was going down my armpits to my stomach the whole interview. i am the most quiet kid you would ever meet, i literally never talk in school, and you think im joking (besides talking to my really close friends). dierbergs never called me back and i thought i did everything perfect. after that i decided to use a site called glassdoor.com and read and memorize EVERY question they have for the company you are applying for. i went to an open interview for a place called schnucks which is another grocery store. i thought i messed up at the very beggining because i bumped the dudes desk, he didnt seem to care. anyways sure as sh*t he asked about 5 questions and every single one was on the site glassdoor. i got hired on the spot at an open interview because i had such an open availability. Never give up, and ALWAYS go to open interviews, you might think they are a waste of time, but they prepare you for future interviews.

Thanks for all the support guys. 😀 I'm still gonna keep on plugging away at trying to get a job. The interview at Oreilly's went pretty smoothly, he said he'd let me know by friday if they're gonna go further.
