I received a Gearbox today GM number 26000525, I was told this was off a MC SS but not sure. I have read conflicting information on the internet as to what this fits. Any one know?

do you mean the steering box? that should be the 2.25 ratio quick turn box

Did they tell you what year MCSS? The later years had the "Z" stamp embossed on the box. (or "N" depending on how you look at it)

How can I tell if it is good before I install it?

I'm in the process of replacing my Steering Gear Box as well, I was going to go with the 2.25 lock to lock but I chose the one from Autozone that they recommended, its a 3.3 lock to lock. There is also a 3.5 Lock to lock. I'm interested to know how yours will work, what car is yours?
I have the 1980 and the front wheel arches seem to be lower then other G-body, also what wheel and tire combo you have.
I have the 2000 Firebird 16 X 8 in wheels, with 245- 16 tires and run 3in spacers.
