I want a 20+ gallon gas tank for EFI conversion. Options?

If the B body tank would potentially line up, and you don't need the spare tire well, you could cut out the well and add this piece in its place. Scott rod fabrications make and sell them. Just a thought.

I've thought of doing the same thing. but if your looking for only another 30-50 miles from your tank, the improved fuel economy associated with fuel injection may get you there with out a larger tank.
diesel tanks were supposedly larger by 1.5 gallons. but just like the gas versions, weren't baffled. and are incredibly hard to find.
if i were to add capacity, i would switch to a caprice tank, loose the spare tire well and use a safety spare.

If you can stand to keep the factory tank, you could keep the stock tank and use a fuel pump from a 460 equipped 88-92 Ford F-250. This pump is externally mounted and will handle EFI pressures. This is what I was going to use to upgrade my 350 to TBI.

I would get a GN / 4.3 Monte tank since they were baffeled for the FI

I do like the GN tank idea for the simplicity of installing it; it's just that it is still only a 17-gallon capacity.

90's Caprices had a 22 gallon tank

Will it fit? I have no clue.

From what I read, a Caprice tank will fit in an El Camino since it has no spare tire well hanging down under the floor. As for my GP, it won't fit.

If your main concern if fuel economy then I would invest my time and money into an overdrive transmission.

Already have one--a 4L80E. My first two full tanks of fuel have only produced 11.75 mpg and then 12.35 mpg, and this is with 3.08 gears. I'm considering upgrading to 3.73 gears, and that probably won't help my economy any.

if your looking for only another 30-50 miles from your tank, the improved fuel economy associated with fuel injection may get you there with out a larger tank.

I do have high hopes that installing EFI will improve my economy. I just don't know that it will improve by that much. We'll see, I guess.

85 Eldorado tank Dimensions: 40.375 x 39 x 9.25 in --- 20 gallons

G-Body coupe/sedan tank Dimensions 36.25 x 24.25 x 8.875 in --- 17 gallons

89 Caprice coupe/sedan tank Dimensions 39-3/4 In. x 26-1/2 In. x 10 In. --- 22 gallons

Eldorado tank will need the Eldorado straps and would possibly need to change the neck to a G-Body.

Caprice tank would need the spare tire well removed and once again the Caprice straps possibly the G-Body neck

I would measure the tank area for the Eldorado since it is much wider but I was told it will fit with minor mods.

There was a guy on ebay a few years back that sold a custom aluminum or stainless tanks for G-Body's for around 4-500

I believe he was out of Florida but I don't see them listed anymore

I wish I had picked one up when they were listed.

3 to 5 more gallons adds 18 to 30 lbs of dynamic weight so that take burns some extra fuel and depending on your fuel mileage you won't be getting that much further down the road. I

I guess he will have to build up that BBC more to pull the extra weight.
