the part numbers are... clutch pack: GM # 231127 ...S spring: GM # 231260

thanks, they were the first people I called after we spoke. Them, and Randy at ringpinion.com were the last people to carry them. They sold out Fall last year, missed them by a few months

those part numbers are correct, but no longer manufactured. The S-spring for some reason is still available thru GBodyParts.com, IWEAreRearEndsOnly.com, NitroGear.com, DTSDrivetrainSpecialists.com, etc... And so are the thrust washers, pins, and even the pinion/side gear assembly.
... but everyone is out of the clutches, and no one wants to make more.

I sent a 8.5" rear over to have examined for prototype purpose. We placed the moser 30 splines in it and it has the old style clutch pack. When I fly over to TW in a few weeks I am speaking with a manufacturer that will possibly make the entire unit as an assembly. We will also have service parts available as well. I can't stress this enough though. I will NOT proceed unless this unit can be as durable as the original. I am not ready to have a reputation of junk. So we will test metal strength and all the metalurgy before we proceed.

Two weeks ago I placed an AD on craigs list looking for an 8.5. I got 5 responses. I bought 3, one more pending. I placed another ad, but in different cities surrounding Cincy, all major metro cities. No responses. The supply is all but dried up, and there is a large demand. We will try to get something done, but no promises. I dont put out junk. I would rather not put anything at all.

That S spring should be available since it's being produced, it's a 300 lbs spring compared to the old stock 200 lbs spring. Check with a good dealer who has a good parts guy and he may be able to dig something up for you. Those clutches are around some place, there is enough of those Eaton posi's out there that people are doing something to rebuild them

and here's the stock spring

and here is someone making the clutch packs..

the unfortunate thing I've found is, myself included, people are intimidated by rebuilding these things. If one tiny part fails or needs service, seems people would rather just replace the whole carrier. And I've even found this attitude from the retailers. Randy at ringpinion.com and IWEAreRearendsOnly.com both said they hardly make sales on individual parts, people just order a whole new carrier instead. Seems they only get support from the guys doing custom builds. Randy started making these clutches for his website, but stopped because he was making more bucks on the whole carrier.

That's the spring I was gonna get, is this the 300 lb spring?

thanks for giving me that link for the V8Buick guys, I'm a member there, I guess I shoulda talk to those guys too  , I'm going to contact these guys right away!

Toby, would you consider making these individual parts? Or are you still looking to do full differentials?

Ill give you an example of another product that I procure so you can understand my method. I create and make step bumpers. Most people just want to replace their step bumper upon failure or accident. This would be similiar to your saying most would just replace the carrier. However, insurance companies may replace just the face bar in a slight accident. and therefore not need the whole assembly/. I guess this would be like a service shop taking the time to tear apart and replace teh components of the diff. So I will offer both. I can always have teh mfg give me service part to accomodate any situation.

I agree... I'm afraid that there isn't the demand for this that I think there is. And you get these components into production and only a few people buy. That'd be a huge waste.

I see a demand for complete units. But I also see the demand from guys like me who are looking to save some $$$ by rebuilding our OEM units by replacing individual components, rather than purchasing an entire posi carrier assembly.

how about a nice set of lowering springs for a cutlass that drops the car about 2 inches.
you can also make a wing like the monte carlo ss wing that fits a cutlass just right unstead of modifying one.
