Heres how smogging works out here in vegas. You drive up to this little hut thats normally at your local 7-11 they throw a stick in each tailpipe(it reads the emissions levels)a clamp around your passenger side spark plug wires,he writes down your vin and mileage,he runs your car at 2500rpm's till it reads 100% and thats all she wrote.Hell the last smog check I had I went down without a air cleaner on and the kid didn't even ask me where it was.lol

Boy, you west coast guys have too much sh*t to deal with! My sympathies. Here in NH, once your car hits 20, your not required to have emissions equipment at all (cats, smog pumps, etc). Hell, if your car is pre OBD II, it's only safety and a visual inspection.

Thats exactly how it is in chicago.91 and older doesn't need to be smogged.

Im used to the CA smog rules. Which if you know someone they just run your vin and put another car in place of your ride. If you have a hook up. I have no clue how the AZ laws are though. I plan on swapping an early 70's 350 in my ride. If anyone can let me know at what point they stop asking for emissions here I would appreciate it.

You should be able to download your states inspection laws from your DMV web site.

In the Phoenix area, for any car newer than 1967, every two years you have to go to a station where they hook up the sniffer to the exhaust. You also have to pass a visual test, and the emissions system has to be stock; stock being identified as either for the car or for the engine, whichever is newer. They NEVER stop requiring it.

I haven't tried this, but I understand that if you don't know what the stock emissions should be for your vehicle, you can go to one of these stations (there's one just off I-10 and Chandler), ask them what you need for your vehicle, and they'll give you a list.

There's a lot of misinformation around about what is legal and what isn't though. What you should do is call Vehicles Emissions atl 602-771-3950 and ask to speak to a tech. They're very helpful, and will tell you what you need to know.

Cool thanks! I have to find out all the info. My car is a CA car so I have all the smog equipment on it already. Could I just swap all that over to the 350 and be ok to pass emissions?

Well i can say that in cali i have a friend who did just that dropped a crate 350 in there 87 el camino choo choo customs ss and put all the smog stuff from the 305 back on the 350 and just 2 months ago passed smog no problem just had to turn the timing down. he bought a new gm nos quadrajet and just put all the smog stuff back on down to the stock manifolds with smog pumps.

Back when i lived in Tucson, AZ the smog was pretty much the same deal as the others have said. But when i lived there i had passed emissions since, i had cats on it and the egr setup on it. The visible inspection was harder to get around than the sniffer test. As long as the car has the emissions it originally had on it you could pass the visible, just had to tune it to pass the sniffer. I lucked out that my 78 only had an egr valve and a catalytic for emissions. I did run dual exhaust with headers and dual cats.

they do make an aftermarket aluminum intake manifold with an egr valve, edelbrock makes it
