So does the front plate.

The mechanical fan would be fine IMO, if properly sized and had some shrouding... But that one is both small and raw..

So the exhaust blows right into passenger compartment. At least it takes care of the problem that way.

A self correcting problem. Just don't want to be around it when it does the final correction.

The mechanical fans do rob power, although posing this bad i doubt he has to worry about that. The main reason turbo cars will do the fender exit is that having the full exhaust with the turbo will absolutely destroy power. Running it out the fender the car will spool faster and make more boost. Actually engine masters just did an episode on this now that i think about it. Plus the turbos act as a sort of muffler to by blocking the exhaust pulses so they arent that loud anyway. But the muffler under the hood thing makes no sense to me unless like has been said this was a twin turbo car at one point which might explain why its like this now.

He probably did it because it was cheap on the wallet & easier than routing all the way to the back of the car.

Useless on a max effort race car like this one
Of the 10 vehicles I own half have mechanical fans they have their place

Car could have previously had a turbo setup or a wicked nitrous setup and got sold as a roller and the new owner wanted something to drive without a ton of work?

Or plans to turbo it down the road?

From looking at the wheels, paint and cage I have to believe that '81cutlass has hit the nail on the head. If he's wrong, then someone needs tell the owner that when smoking crack, be sure it's out of pipe, not from between two cheeks.
