Is this carb worth rebuilding?

I use red loctite on the butterly screws too, since they're no longer staked.
That's exactly what I ended up doing. being I wasn't going to try and stake the new screws...red Loctite to the rescue. 👍

Plus- there is no such thing as a bad Q-jet. Everything is easily replaceable and if all else fails it becomes a parts donater. I scour the swap meets for cheap Q-jets just to cannibalize it and collect the rods, jets, and other parts. A $5 Q-jet can easily give up $50 in parts.

While I'm awaiting my replacement base from MrSony I've been cleaning all the rest of the parts using a combination of vinegar, Berrymans Carb Dip, and Pine Sol, all recommendedations I found online.

I used the Berrymans on some of the smaller pieces and it didn't seem to do much.

The air horn and the main body got soaked in Pine Sol and look almost new.

I used the vinegar on the really corroded parts and the fasteners and they are looking like new, but the vinegar ate the yellow zinc coating off of the choke plate and air flaps for the secondaries as well as some of the linkages. I'm wondering where I might be able to get these parts replated. I figure a carb rebuilder would have to be able to do it. Or maybe even a local plating business, though I'm not sure they'd take such a small job. Has anyone else had carb parts replated?

There should be a few You Tube videos that instruct you how to replate the carb bodies....although I never did mine. I was happy that I got it somewhat clean and functional again.

I'm not so much worried about the body, as much as I am the linkages and the air flaps. And I'm not really even worried about cosmetics, I just don't want them to rust without their zinc or whatever coating was on them.

That's a good point. The coating does protect the metal somewhat from corrosion.

The air flaps won't really rust unless the air filter is left off for an extended amount of time. The fuel vapor will mostly keep that from happening. Avoid painting anything that will be under the air filter, the vapors will just make any paint curdle. There are some ways to replate stuff at home, but it's kind of expensive and not really worth it imo. And this is what a carb looks like with a few light coats of the carb paint from eastwood:

Okay well thats good. I actually kinda like the patina'd look on the carb body, I just don't want the carb to corrode to hell a few months later because the zinc plating is gone.

What about all the little linkages and stuff? Will they be okay as well or should I paint them with something or see if I can get them plated?
