Is this carb worth rebuilding?

Okay well thats good. I actually kinda like the patina'd look on the carb body, I just don't want the carb to corrode to hell a few months later because the zinc plating is gone.

What about all the little linkages and stuff? Will they be okay as well or should I paint them with something or see if I can get them plated?

Don't bother. Paint is too thick and will hang/gum stuff up eventually. That's why they were plated.

I agree with Driven. A properly tuned Quadrajet is as good as it gets IMHO. If, for whatever reason, you decide to replace this carb, contact Mountainman carbs in AR. He is a Qjet guru and is willing to help. He also rebuilds and sell Qjets and folks in the El Camino community swear by him. I have one his carbs on my 454 and it's been flawless for 3 years. Just another option.

I got this thing pretty clean I think. I used my dremel and some metal polish where I could. Not quite the patina'd look I'd like, so I may buy a can of that carb renew from Eastwood. I got all the smaller parts cleaned pretty well too.

Also it looks like I can get all of the parts at my local NAPA. The NAPA rebuild kit is expensive though, something like $50. How are the rebuild kits from AutoZone or O'Reilly's?

Have fun checking in store for one. At Advance they looked at me like I had a d!@% growing out my forhead. O'Reilly's (an old Frank's) were getting mad at the computer catalog cause it was only listing Edelbrock kits. I still need one for my "mystery" Qjet.

We are just starting to get oreillys here, they just opened one on Rt. 8 in Gibsonia and they are about to open one in West View plaza where the Pizza Hut used to be.

The people at the AutoZone on McKnight know me well enough that they just let me use the computer myself whenever I'm there, and they don't care if go back and get the parts myself because more often than not I know where the parts are when the employees don't. They've offered me a job on more than one occasion.

When you removed the APT adjuster did you bottom it out and count the turns so you can put it back in the original position? Don't spend any money on a tool to adjust the APT, take a 3/16 brake line and made a D on one end and about 6" up from the D end bend the tube 90 so you can use that as a handle and to track your turns. For the aluminum plug just drill a small hole in it so you can put a screw in the hole so you can remove it when needed. When you are putting the plug in don't jam ii in hard, it won't go anywhere.

I did count the turns from being bottomed out, but there was a lot of crust gumming it up, so I'm planning on possibly having to tinker with it. It was around 2 3/4 turns CCW from being bottomed out. Sweet tip on the adjustment tool!

https://quadrajetparts.com/ has better qjet model specific kits, floats, everything you could possibly need. Just type in your carb number, buy the kit, float, accel pump, filter with check valve, o ring well plugs, and any other things you might need. I get all my stuff from them, auto parts stores don't have sh*t for qjets anymore. They don't even regularly stock base gaskets anymore, always in the back, behind a box, covered in dust. To be honest I only go to parts stores for fiddly sh*t like spark plugs and oil. Or if I'm working on a new car.

I'm pretty much starting to ditch the auto parts store too. The convenience of having parts in stock is the only thing they really have going for them. RockAuto is usually 30-50% cheaper even when you factor in shipping. I called NAPA, and they can get the parts but they don't stock them, so quadrajetparts.com it is.
