I was hoping to find a video from start to finish...just like how i would do it right now. But i cant find any that looked the same. I seen a thread with pontiacgp explaining it but no pictures. I like pictures😁

So another thing is.....................its a column shift piece but the car is a floor shift. I believe the column came from another car to match the interior color. It is a tilt. Will that matter? So where is that switch at in the column? Did i miss that part in the video?

I will take a pic tomorrow for you

It is half way down the column and held on by 2 bolts.

Its an easy swap

So i can do all this without dropping the column? Just pop the steering wheel off and take out the internal stuff to expose what i need to get at?

The actual switch is outside the column

see the off whiteish thing

Remove the vent plate under the column then the 2 5/8 or 15mm nuts the column with drop and give you plenty of access

It is easy, until you fugg it up because you bought the wrong switch. There's two different switches because one pulls and one pushes. One's for tilt wheel, the other is for straight column and because they look similar, you can fugg up and get the wrong one. And GM only put them one number apart, which didn't help things. Ignition switch sits right on top of the column. DON'T bend that connector rod that extends down from the key cylinder to the actual switch.

Note- the key tumbler has really not much to do with your ignition issues. Whether the key stays in or not is a function of the ignition switch. If you can turn it, the ignition switch reacts because that's where the wires are. It doesn't care how you turn the tumbler.

TILT WHEEL SWITCH - 1990116 or box store equivalent number

NON-TILT WHEEL SWITCH- GM p/n 1990115 or box store equivalent number

Chek out this post from about 3 months ago showing the difference so you can actually look to make sure it's the right switch. Take the old one with you if you're not sure, or print out the picture of the one you need to inspect the new one.
