BUILD THREAD Janky- A Mexican Monte Clone

A little sneak peek of a console I’m working on, it’s an absolute monolith.
Might change that, it’s this tall to have a comfortable arm rest height while driving.

Small update on this, I finished it but have decided to build another one from scratch. While this console (sort of) worked I made a few mistakes when I built it, chief amongst them the height of it. I ended up trimming it down and with an armrest it was still too high and after fiddling with it all winter I came to dislike the used Z-Gate I had for the car. I felt it was a bit too clunky for what I was using it for since I went with a forward manual shift kit in the transmission, and the Z-Gate requires a T-handle to be pulled up for every downshift. That got annoying really fast.
I managed to find a Quarter Stick at Canfield for cheap enough and I’ve gotten it modified and mounted in the car. And since it’s around 4 inches or so shorter than a Z-Gate, I need a new console anyway. Hopefully this time I’ll find space for cup holders.

I tried to spray the door last week, and I either missed something or my tack cloth was too hot and some of adhesive stuck to the door, and left me with a ton of fisheyes. And I’ve only got one fender stand to use on top of being a week behind where I wanted to be.....

It’ll be fine.

You're not a real body man until you start risking all your prep work with questionable paints from a questionable gun. Wear it like a badge of honor.
I’ve come to realize I need to buy another of these Platinums for basecoat. This gun practically ran itself!

There’s a bit of dirt (and bugs) in both pieces, but it was expected with the questionable painting set up I was working with. I haven’t found any runs or sags in any panel yet that weren’t in the primer that I could safely ignore, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t proud of that.

I’m hoping to have the carpet in by Monday, and having the rest of the interior up to the upper sail panels by the end of next week so I can prep the body for wet sanding, then I’m tackling the remaining door and fender, the trunk lid, and hood in that order. I’m hoping to have the car home by the end of August, so I can paint the bumper covers here while they’re on the car, as I can set this place up to paint far better than the barn.

Looks good! Bugs and dirt will come out when you wetsand and polish. My only advice for you is that if you are unfamiliar with the clear, try to keep the painted panels out of the sun until you wetsand if you can help it. With the transtar clear that I used, if the panels were put in the sun, the clear would get much harder and wetsanding took twice as long than the ones I kept inside. I think the sun really "cured" it.
