I appreciate the feedback. Overcautious is a good thing here. Something across the door openings is probably a good idea. I'll see if I can find something to weld there. After dinner I'm gonna start tacking some of this stuff into place and I'll see where I wind up.

Seen some guys fab up a piece that goes to door strike and to a hinge just using the bolts
 
I'm in agreement, there's no such thing as overkill. glad you're taking your time and thinking things through before acting. Me? my regal would've been a pretzel by now...
 
Yep the welds are uggllyyyy and I know it. Not my nicest work but aesthetics aren't of great importance with this. I didn't want to go too crazy making them prettier because I do have to take this back out at some point. But here is what I came up with. It feels very rigid, I don't think anything is gonna move with this in place.
