Just a rant

theres cruise ins here 4-5 per week end and you see all types and states of finished cars heck i was taking my wagon for a bit till the weather got too danged hot of course now its raing for nearly 2 weeks

Now don't get me wrong, I like all cars and will stop and look at anything that someone has put some time into it to make it their own. But the new cars in the biggest car show in NB letting in new stuff and not letting in some cars that don't have perfect paint really pi$$es me off. The organizers are going to ruin that show and people will stop going. I have seen it happen to a couple really good car shows in the maritimes.
I like to go to the local cruises that are around in the summer. Hanging out with good friends talking cars, bench racing, etc. Just hanging around bullshittin with one another. I'm not into going to a show to look at Joe Blow's new vette, viper, etc. Nor do I want to go and see Ricky Ricer's Honda with a fart pipe and a wing.
Here's a pic of a car that they let in with no questions asked because it was a 78

suffrn6 were you at the Car show in PEI about 2 weeks ago?
There is a big show in August in Sussex, NB at Balloon Fest, it is a huge one day car show. Get cars from all over the maritimes and almost everyone that registers gets a prize. It is usually a good day hanging around. There have been over 2000 cars at the show and the number of cars keeps getting bigger every year. Here's a link to it http://www.atlanticballoonfiesta.ca/show-shine/. If you are planning on coming over from PEI this would be the weekend I would plan for.
No I didn't get to that show in PEI, would have liked to have gone to it. Hopefully next year we will be able to get over to it. Have heard there is some nice cars on the island.

Chris

The way I see it is they should leave all the corvettes out in the parking lot, you see one vette you have seen them all. Leave the new Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers out in the parking lot too. You want to look at one of those go to the dealership.

My thoughts exactly.
My hat's off to anyone who can afford one of the newer pony cars or a 'Vette, but seeing a "classic car" or even some kid's well-kept RX-7 is more interesting than seeing something you saw 5 of in a dealer lot just yesterday. Ya know?

Well said

The only reason I'm going this year is because a couple guys in my car club want to go.
That's pretty much what it's supposed to be about anyway. If you just do it for the plaques/trophies, you're kinda missing the point. You know if they still do anything out at the bomber? I was out there a few years ago and there was quite a few cars.

what I can't figure out is why they ever allowed an automatic transmission to be installed in a vette...for me if a car isn't a driver then it's not a car...the exceptions are the 50's and older

That's why my cars are all manuals, Steve, so the women can't drive em'! At least you guys can travel around to different shows. Here on Lonk Island even though it's a hundred miles long, no one leaves or comes here for cars shows because no one wants to pay through the wazoo just to sit in endless traffic passing through NYC. Therefore the same cars are at the same shows again and again and again. Why bother?

I believe they had a show at The Bomber in June.

There is a show at the Tillamook Air Museum on August 4th. My brother and I have been to it for the past two years. It has a pretty good turn out. They park all the cars inside the hanger.

Another fun one is the Function 4 Junction in Junction City. They do a Hot August Nights / American Graffiti style main street cruise. It's '74 and earlier so you'd either need to catch a ride or just tell them your Monte is a '74. It's not really local but the small town shows are usually friendlier and more drama free. I drove to the main street show in Pendleton last month. Even won my class 😀 .

I thought it was only over here that driving automatic equalled penis reduction.
The whole point of American cars to me is comfortable cruising, most old time American muscle would be blown away by later European hot hatches, don't take my word for it, there are plenty of road tests with timed figures to back up this statement.

We don't get eligibility issues here at classic and custom/hot rod shows, any American car is normally welcome just because there aren't that many over here, like MGs or old Jaguars in North America perhaps.
Bromley Motoring Pageant in se London is one of the biggest one day car shows in Europe, they have a strictly enforced over 25 years old rule for most cars, customs, American cars not available from UK dealers, and exotics like Ferraris, Lambos and the like are normally ok but check first.

Not letting a car in because it doesn't have top notch paint or has some other imperfection will kill grass roots level interest in the old car hobby, maybe call the organisers to see if the have their heads up their own asses beforehand so you can support venues that cater for enthusiasts rather than the big wallet blowhards.
If we do this the genuine car fans wil have affordable shows to attend, maybe the new car show offs will start showing their trophy wives instead.
