With the speakers up high I feel the sound quality is better than having them in a kick panel or lower door panel and legs and feet don't block the sound and I also like that the speakers don't protrude but maybe a 1/2" or so into the interior.

Nice installation. Whether you realize it or not there is science behind your logic. For an optimal sound stage speakers should be placed at ear level. High frequency (from 1000 HZ to 20K) is very directional so audio experts recommend placing mid and high frequency drivers up high. Low frequency (bass) is non directional and in a car at least is not affected much by speaker placement. One of my second hobbies is home theater. I spend way too much time and money on it.

So
4" 2 way in dash.. 45 rms. and 6 1/2" in the doors.. 100rms. should be good up front...
4" 2 way in the piller and 6 1/2 near your arm.. In the back with either one 12" or one 15" in the back behind the seat in the trunk facing the front of the car..

Something like this would thump?

I am coming from my 95 corvette.. Where I had four 6x9 and one 12"

Now that I am older I wanted a larger car for the family when needed on the weekend... But since I got rid of the Vette, I still need a toy...

If all you want is thump then all you need to worry about is your sub-woofer. A friend of mine had a 12" 2000 watt Sony XPlod sub in his Jeep, with an aftermarket deck, no other mods to the system. That thing "Thumped", could hear him coming a block away, inside the house with all the windows closed. It was supper loud and felt like someone was punching you in the back if you sat in the back seat.
