With the speakers up high I feel the sound quality is better than having them in a kick panel or lower door panel and legs and feet don't block the sound and I also like that the speakers don't protrude but maybe a 1/2" or so into the interior.
Nice installation. Whether you realize it or not there is science behind your logic. For an optimal sound stage speakers should be placed at ear level. High frequency (from 1000 HZ to 20K) is very directional so audio experts recommend placing mid and high frequency drivers up high. Low frequency (bass) is non directional and in a car at least is not affected much by speaker placement. One of my second hobbies is home theater. I spend way too much time and money on it.
