LETS SEE SOME GRAND PRIX'S

Nice. Did you ever get her sorted out or at least get to make some get acquainted passes?

Made 2 runs, was not as prepared as I had thought. Never driven on a drag strip before, so the tree was tricky-FAST for me and the helmet and straps. lol To much to do. Left in 2nd gear and freaked out because it didn't shift when I went for 3rd and let up for a moment. 2nd run -left a tad late in 1st that time but from idle as the tree went so quick. I'd thought I still needed the 2nd bulb, kept it flat on the floor, pulled like a bear on steroids to me anyway. Saw the temp gauge shooting up when on the return road (threw belt) shut it off and coasted (seems like it didn't sound the same???) just before shutting it off. My alternator was screwed up so it wasn't charging well, couldn't get it started, had anti freeze blow over on the return road, we decided to load it and watch. Both runs oddly were 12:20's 2nd run 111mph -1st slower. Got electrical issue fixed -Also it had a limp cylinder due to a adjuster on #4 intake backing off in the last run/ruined the threads in rocker, fixed it. Will convert to electrically driven water pump and relocated/tuck the alt. in close before back on the track. Is making power? -late from -idle and a cylinder dropped out at some ?? point, still went 111. Mid 11's? The project evolved several times over the years, wish I had gone for more compression. Started out as a street driver, got better heads, cam intake and carb and stripped about everything out of the car. I'm tempted to find more metal to remove up front.

111 might break an 11 if everything is right suspension's dialed in traction etc. 12.20s is good for a 111 mph street gbody and good power. Tune tune tune. I put bungs in my header collectors so I could tune it with a wideband but never got to do it.

Lol i was using this a screen saver as well, mainly as a reference, i really want to know what those wheel mouldings are from or where😀

I was using your car as a screen saver about a year ago! It's one of my favorites and it's a great color too.

Those are factory LJ wheel moldings. I bought the two rear ones NOS from a GM dealer in the 90s, the front two are original to the car. I bought the rear ones as the original were pitted all to sh*t. I have only seen them on a few cars, they are factory. This car was originally two-tone, dark claret (as it is all now) on the sides and grey top/bottom of car. It also had a vinyl top that was shot and that I hated so I converted it to hard top. Converting is not easy, especially with the t-tops. The molding along the back of the t-tops and the top of the quarter windows is t-top only, and I only ever found one GP with tops and no landau roof, thankully about 2 weeks before it was finished in the paint shop, otherwise I would have had to mod or fabricate and that isn't fun. I have seen my picture being used to 'sell' cars as well. Kind of funny unless someone sent money to the *ss for my car (I should get a % then).

The only difference now is I changed the exhaust to be turn downs at the rear axle

My 1981 5.7L Diesel 85K Original documented miles! Seriously Grandpa and Grandma owned since new. Been in storage for the past 10 years just outside of Boston Mass. Cost more to ship her here than the purchase price. Cranks right up no issues runs like a charm! Recently had the tan two tone part repainted.
