It might not be strictly in compliance with the OP's intent, but I'll give it a go. I bought my car brand new in August 1982 (it's a 83 GP LJ). The car has undergone major surgery a few times over those almost 40 years. The car never had rust issue, but most of the driving components have been changed (a few times) for aftermarket parts. For me it was "the journey" and not "the destination" that mattered. My son is following my footsteps and we're both having fun. So here goes:

September 1982 (as delivered from the GM factory via my dealer, Ron Hodgson Pontiac Buick, in St. Albert, AB)

I got this out of a field. Sitting since 1994. I just dropped a Chevy 350 in it 700r4 and put on a set of rally’s. I’ll send pics when the front tires are mounted and off jack stands. Funniest thing was I drove it out of the field, Everything was covered in wheat seed and amazingly even the blower motor works. I’m over the moon about it. More pics to come.

Correction: Visited with Dad tonight. The Tri-Five show was in July, 1982. He built the car in 18 months. What a wild man!

He and Sean drove it all the way to New Orleans for the show, and later that year drove it all the way to the Bay Area in California. One front wheel bearing (ball bearing style) failed on the way. That's it!
