The ironic part is the same thing that got Sears so big (mail order) in its modern form (online shopping) Is a large part of they're downfall. People have WAY more choices now. Back in the 80s a Snap On rep gold me that Sears took bids from different tool companies to make theyre tools. Some were made by Snap On. I guess the Chinese companies are putting in the lowest bids nowdays. My Craftsman mig I bought almost 20 years ago is really a Miller. Not sure about my 5 hp 80 gallon 2 stage air compressor. 15 or so years old. I'm sure glad Craftsman and Kenmore will live on. Just today after work, we went one suburb over to the Sears appliance store and spent $1,900.00 on a new Kenmore fridge.

I probably will not buy any more Craftsman tools as there made in China. May have to step up and spend more and get the bluepoint brand from snap-on.

I'm not sure Lowes selling Craftsman tools is going to be a good thing. As you guys have mentioned, Craftsman tools are now made in China. The Lowes tool brand is Kobalt and I was told that they are (or used to be) made by either Mack, Matco, or Snap-On. I don't know where these tools are made now a days but I own some of all three brands and the quality can't be denied.

I am afraid that if they start selling Craftsman (at around the same price as Kobalt) they will discontinue the Kobalt line.

Most of the tools i have bought in the last 5-6 years have been Kobalt and I have no complaints. I find the Kobalt to be way less than half as expensive as the other three and they used to have a sale on Kobalt at Lowes almost every weekend (although not so much here lately). Kobalt prices are competitive with Craftsman, they are all heavily chromed, better quality and you don't have to flag down a tool truck to by them.

By the way, I have owned Craftsman tools for over thirty years now and starting about 9 years ago, the stores in my area won't always honor the "lifetime" warranty.
