Just curious why you went with rear drum brakes and not disk.

A few reasons why..

first of all was the cost, I picked the drum brakes for just over $300. They are larger than the stock g-body rear drums so the should be some improvement. I know people who run 10s with with rear drums and have no issues stopping at the top end. I do plan on doing a 2wd blazer front spindle/hub and disc brake swap in the future and who knows maybe some rear discs after that but for know the drums will do. I have a few things like engine and trans to save up for. I also plan on starting the body and paint very soon 8)

beautiful, do they have a roll cage "kit" for an el camino? I searched on the website but couldnt find anything, or how to buy it

I'm not sure if Competition Engineering makes a g-body el camino kit, ive never checked. I imagine that you could use the hoop and door bars from the kit like mine. I bet somebody on here has put bars in a el camino.
my friend did his, but it isnt track legal??? cause the bars dont go through the window at a certain angle? it was done clean though and enters the cab right under the rear window...

Ya you would have to check the rule book. I know my uncle ran an s10 that ran low 11s and his went through under the rear window but this is goin back a few years. It all depends how fast you want to go or if you just like the look and badassness of a roll bar.

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

My adjustable rear sway bar from Hellwig came in this week, it is a really nice piece for the price and it also clears the offset center section on the ford 9". Also I cleaned up and sprayed the gas tank with chassis saver aluminum paint. The outer body work starts tomorrow night to get it ready for paint.

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

Finally got all the dents out of it, there were way more than I thought. The drivers side quarter took a fair bit of massaging to get right.I also just got my 2" cowl hood in from Goodmark. Just have to set up a date for the body shop to take over. More updates to come soon!

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

Looks great man. I wish i could find some parts cars for my 86 monte build

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

So its been a little while since ive posted any updates on the montes progress. Lets just say ive been injured for the last little while and could not work on it. I have taking all the parts to the body shop and had them sprayed in high build primer. I got them just primed because im going to try and save some money and block everything myself, however its very time consuming. The car itself hasnt gone for primer yet but soon. As for colours im thinking of going with 2011 GM Cyber Grey Metallic, I think it would look great with the grey interior and as for wheels im looking at a set from rocket racing wheels with the grey 5 spokes. Heres some picks of the primed parts which im just finally getting to blocking.
