Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

Picked up a little christmas present for the 81 monte this weekend. Got an Allstar Performance ford 9" housing with a set of matching 31spline axles. This housing is 60" flange to flange instead of the stock width of 58". This should give me a few more options on rims so I wont have to run such a small back spacing. Should be an easy fit, just have to weld on the trailing arm mounts and spring purches.

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

Great build off so far bro just finished reading all 6 pages. Can't wait to see the end results for sure. I'll be doing that vht black out spray on my tails soon. But I'm going to switch to led bulbs that way the law can't say nothing. So are you also going to use the ss bumper and tails?

Thanks Bowie

Since I picked up the 87 mcss the the project has taken a bit of a change. I plan on using the ss nose, bumper, and tails now. The ss interior will also be used. As for a color I am thinking of going with a dark gray metallic with the black ss trim.

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

Love the work so far, wish I had the guts and know-how to chop up a car to fix the rust in mine. Keep up the good work.

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

Really inspiring post! Thank you for posting so many pics and information. I just bought my dad's 83' 305 Monte, which I have loved ever since I was a little girl. I saved it from my mom who put it on Craigs List!!! I have been knocking around a bunch of ideas so I appreciate your insight on what can be problematic and how to fix it properly. Can't wait to get going on my "mini" project with my dad now!

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

We got the roll cage fitted this week finally. I had the kit from competition engineering modified to allow the back seat to be used, also I had the door bars tweeked to clear the arm rest and window cranks. All the tubes were mandrel bent to avoid kinking the tubes. The bars are welded to steel plates which are bolted to the frame with grade 8 hardware. Should clear the entire SS interior and just has to be welded.

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

Welded on my lower control arm brackets, bump stop brackets, and spring perches today. Mounted the housing in place just to mock it up. Now its time for paint, brakes and a center section 😀

Re: New Project 81 Monte Build

Ive been busy this weekend, I got a friend of my dads to tig weld all the joints on the bars. I then epoxy primed the bars, floor and trunk floor. I then found a colour that matched the SS interior which I will likely end up painteing the entire car. Believe the colour is either called stealth grey metallic or cyber grey metallic, I will have to check the code again. heres some pics.
