NIce!! i have a line on the same engine! but i haven't pulled the trigger as a haven't seen the 5.7 run yet on my GP's lS1 swap... it's cheap enough i may just pick it for a spare. Why not keep it EFI? I wouldn't consider a carb a upgrade  Sure it costs a bit a more but i hope it's worth it in regards to mpg and being able to tune it to max hp. If you don't have emissions then it's even easier!!

Well the reason I want to go with the carb is the simplicity of the entire setup and the cost of things. All I need is the victor Jr intake a carb and an msd 6010 box. The msd box will also give me the ability to set my timing curve, rev limit, 2-step, and also I believe it has a timing retard. All this can be changed by plugging my lap top into the box. Im not worried about fuel milage since this will be a weekend car. I also remember I think in car craft they tested the carb vs efi setup and the carb edged out the efi in hp by a little bit with a little less torque (from what I can remember).

I think the hardest part for me will be getting it fit in there nice, but I have found some cad drawings for the adapter plates that will allow me to use my sbc solid engine mounts.

Re: Project 81 Monte Build LQ9 Powered

Today I test fit the lq9 and 200-4r into the monte and things clear better than expected. I had adapter plates cut on a plasma table at a friends work. They are designed like the transdapt mounts and locate the engine and trans in the same place as the original small block. I am using regular solid transdapt motor mouts for a sbc with the plates and they work great. The deep truck pan made it difficult to install the engine and trans as a unit so im thinking of using the h3 pan kit gm sells or one from cts-v. With the engine located ins stock sbc position ive found a few things out. The valve cover on the passenger side WILL clear the factory gm a/c delelte heater box (its close) and the Stock power steering pump pulley WILL clear the stock g-body steering box (also close). I even think the stock g-body high pressure line will work on the truck pump. So far the swap is looking easier than expected 😀.

A question that I have is for anyone who has done the swap aleady is what long tube headers will work? Ive heard the Pacesetter 702256 headers will work with some dimpling on the passenger side... But will the collectors line up with my g-force 200-4r crossmember? I really dont what to cut the crossmember. please let me know any info helps!

Re: Project 81 Monte Build LQ9 Powered

Purchased a set of f-body pacesetter long tube headers and the fit as expected. Drivers side has no clearance problems at all, passenger side needs good denting on the number 2 primary to clear the frame. Got better news though, car goes for paint this week! colour will be GM gray met from early 2000s. Expect pics soon.

the colour on the right is the one im using

Re: Project 81 Monte Build LQ9 Powered

NICE!! love the color you picked for it!! I bought some headers for a f body but still haven't deciced to install till after I get my ride certified. Nice job on the plates did you have grind them alittle to clear the block webbing?

Thanks. The plates dont contact the webbing at all actually. the problem I ran into was that I had the holes made slightly bigger for some adjustment but cause of that I couldnt tap the holes for my sbc transdapt clamshells to bolt to the plates. So I ended up getting some metric 10.9 grade bolts (same as what holds the mount to the block) and ground the the heads down on the back side to clear the block webbing and welded the heads of the bolt to the adapter plate itself. If I do it again ill get the holes made the correct size and thread them to bolt the clamshell to the plate. This will work fine though.

Got a few parts back from the body shop today heres a little preview 8)

Re: Project 81 Monte Build LQ9 Powered

looking good 8) I had to grind down my transdapt plates to fit the block without hitting the webbing.. got it done but not exactly a bolt in!!

Re: Project 81 Monte Build LQ9 Powered

Got the car back from paint today. Turned out good, still needs to be sanded and polished. That will be done once the car is fully assembled.
