I'm not that old on this Forum but l see alot of new people to the forum that sign up an first thing they do is ask how too's or for sale.

I feel an maybe l'm wrong but l think it should be manitory to first introduce yourself. I also think it would be a good idea that it was in the rules of sign up.

To be honest if l see a thread an it's the first thing posted by a Noob l just go on by an l'm sure others do. I see older members ask the person for an introduction an pics before they get answers for said question. But to a Noob it can come off as a bit rude that a response says hey what about an introduction.

Also for the for the ones that just on the site and start selling on there first post, really!!! Build some trust first, let people get to know you. Or buy a membership so people feel comfortable with you/them.

I'm not trying to be a Prick but it would be nice if both things l talked about are manitory on sign up. It might help the forum, maybe not scare people off or get a bad taste in your mouth about certain members.

Thoughts???

I agree that someone should be a member for a while prior to selling. I do not buy from a user unless there is some type of history on the site.

As for first post being an introduction I have mixed thoughts. I can see the point of an intro. Then again I have joined sites to ask questions regarding a car I was interested in getting prior to buying it. Often times I included what needs to be done to fix X knowing the car will need that repair. In that case what can I really say in an intro that is not said in the post with the questions. I do not remember if that is what I did on this site or another. Once I purchased the car I did post a pic etc. But there were questions first.

Yes you are in part correct in the introduction you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

But, do you walk up to a perfect strange an ask a question before introducing yourself? When you go to a mechanic do you just say this is wrong with my vehicle before introducing yourself?

People are more likely to help if people introduce themselves. Whatever happen to protocol or good manners? Be polite, have good manners, build a repour with people it will always work in your benefit.

I look at it as a long term thing, without doing certain things there is no respect, an your starting to see the effects of that already in the world.

This is an should be a friendly/ helpful site. Makes it easier if everyone is on the same wave length.

You are not the first to bring this subject up but it's worth revisiting. I think in the past there was some discussion about have to make a certain number of posts before you can sell anything but that didn't happen and I can only remober one or two instances where a member had an issue with another member about a sale. I think anyone who joins should give a introduction of themselves along with some pictures of their car. I think the pictures make it the easiest way open up a convetrsation

I think mandatory introductions are overkill. Some people like pouring out their hearts, while some don't. I don't get the hounding people for an introduction either. It's not like this a job interview or an audition of some sort.
On another note, I'm leery of anyone selling items via the internet. There are tons of horror stories about internet transactions. You should have to establish yourself as an active member before being able to post any items for sale, like a one month from joining timeframe before being to post items for sale.

An introduction is a good base to start a conversation, get to know the vehicle an the person. It isn't meant to invade or be a soap opera. Just afew pieces of the puzzle to help the OP find his information an better understand there intent.

Not sure about a mando intro, but common folk worth their salt usually will do that. It's only polite.

That said, I really don't look to see if it's a noob or not. I'm willing to help anyone I can with whatever I can do. But when you start out a convo like "My carb is leaking fuel. Can anyone help?" That's a little light on the details. When you start a "help wanted" post it helps to at least put make/model/pertinent details of the vehicle in question, what you've tried, etc. Otherwise it'll be a game of 20 questions before any help comes.

I am a proponent of mandatory introduction. I guess to each his own.
I agree with you. Bob.
I notice more and more noobs not taking the time to introduce themselves....first post is a question. Then once the question is answered and they're satisfied....they're off into the sunset never to be heard from again until the next time they have a problem.
C,mon guys, you're a guest on this forum. Show some appreciation.

To me, it's poor etiquette. Even guys that jump on to sell their sh*t. One post...that's it.
I'm not a grumpy old curmudgeon, far from it, but it annoys me when people can't bother to take the time for a common intro. I'll get off my soapbox now...

A quick hello never hurt anyone.

Common courtesy isn't to common anymore.

And a mandatory 10 post minimum before they can even go near the classifieds!!

You want a free classified go to Craig's List

Don't need some noob scavenger here sucking up the parts

I agree, there should be a minimum number of posts until a person is able to post their parts for sale. Other forums seem to have rules in that respect.
I also notice the parts scavengers jumping on to snap up deals on parts. They won't even take a moment to bother registering to the site.

I enjoy seeing more members joining, In fact, I'm usually one of the first people to welcome new members. But use some common sense and courtesy.
