There is NO requirement for a mandatory introduction on this site. Quite frankly I'm getting a little PO'd that there are certain members taking it upon themselves to enforce this made-up "rule."
This is how internet communities get a reputation as being uppity and "good old boys clubs" and I won't have it here. We were all "n00bs" once. This isn't AA. I shouldn't be required to tell you my life story to be a part of a website on the internet.
As for the X post requirement to sell parts. Since the beginning some 13 years ago I have said I won't do that. Simply because people will either A. create a bunch of sh*t "me-too" posts to beat the rule if they're so inclined, or B. move on and sell their parts to someone who actually wants them, because they don't want to be in a popularity contest.
We've been round and round with this before, all the way to serious suggestions that I personally background-check people who want to sell stuff here. Do you cruise craigslist or hemmings or FB marketplace looking for references and resumes and life stories? I could charge people a buck or five to post in the for sale section, but then nobody would actually do it.
I don't expect every single person that crosses paths with the site to be a life-long buddy pal friend with everyone here. That's just not how the internet works and its just not how anything works. People have questions, people want help getting their car running. People want to sell their parts then fine, if another member can benefit from that then great. Not everyone is looking for love.
Maybe we just help the new guys out, and instead of immediately going "POTHT INTRUDCTION OR NO HELP!" we just be decent people and help each other out? That will get people to stick around more than anything, at least that's my experience.
Have fun with the site, guys. Don't take it too seriously. People come, people go. We've had people here for years and then one day, *poof* they never return. Who knows why. I don't take it personally, or mourn their moving on.
EDIT: I just re-read the thread here about 3 times to be sure I didn't miss anything. I get where everyone's coming from, I do.
All new members get an automated e-mail from me/the site and part of that says they should go to the new users section and introduce themselves, and read the rules etc. It's "officially recommended" but not a requirement. I am working on a way to make it mandatory that new users read a "rules thread" before they're able to post, and I will make sure that same recommendation is in that thread.... I just haven't had the time to implement it since the 2.x update.
