MAPP Gas Aluminum Brazing

As you would maybe say....

EPOXY, paint it all silver VHT...then SEND IT.

It's only a sucking chest wound. Bubble gum patch and a band-aid.
I thought about that, too since it will be painted 400 bronze. I got bored waiting for the engine, so I started whittling. Then whittled too much. HooptieWagon has a non-EGR Torker in his stash; I think I'd rather be like that, anyway. Then I could cut the EGR ports out of this for an air gapped Torker.......

I didn't know Edelbrock made a non EGR Torquer, interesting. Anyone running a Torquer, EGR is probably not even a consideration. I would have liked it if Edelbrock would have left the hot air choke and just removed the EGR when they did the 2711 a few years back.

And, the verdict is..... inconclusive. The video says the material has to be 730⁰ for it to work. I was trying to heat an entire intake from 45⁰, and it ain't work so good. SO! In the spirit of Wile E. Coyote, I'm gonna put the intake on my ACME turkey fryer burner, and heat that sumbich up. I need to get a new MAPP torch cuz mine kinda got melted a few years ago,, and the trigger lock don't work. Then, I'ma measure it with the high temp laser gun on the way from Amazon. Will report back.

Maybe "brazing" isn't exactly the correct term, even though that's what they call it. I think the stuff is more akin to soldering. I was going to try it,then if it works, go ham on all the unnecessary holes. I do have a welder buddy I could hit up, though.
Brazing is exactly the word to use.Find a local welding supply and go buy some Flux Coated Brazing rods. They're usually about 30-36" long and just realized that's an aluminum intake.(looked like a header flange) I doubt they will work on an aluminum intake but it's worth a try. They're brass brazing rods with flux coating.
I was working on a friends ford explorer a long while back and had to seal up his steel valve covers as the flanges were rusted out.Couldn't find a set of VC's anywhere.I used those brazing rods on them and I used a propane torch with a bottle of MAPP gas it's all I had available at the time. They're still OK to this day.I would have no problem recommending the Flux coated brazing rods on steel or ferrous metal.I'm not sure if they will work on aluminum,I don't think so.
Now those Aluminum welding or aluminum brazing rods are crap IMO I can't get that stuff to work, no matter what flux or how clean I get the base metal it won't stick. That stuff I won't recommend !!!

My vote is find a welder to fix it for you the right way.

Well, the bottom line is: yes, the Blue Demon rods do work. I put the intake on a turkey fryer burner, and smoked up the garage real good like.I was able to get the working surface to about 450⁰ where they recommend 730. I don't know how that is even possible outside of a forge or kiln; maybe, that's the melting point of the rods? Anyway, the center of the intake directly over the burner was about 600. It's not really designed for filling holes, either, I guess. It was still a good time in the garage playing with new things, and that's really what matters!
