Most Unusual G-Body Engine Swap You’ve Ever Seen?

EVERYONE is doing it for a reason.

If everyone was doing it we would see more swaps. There may be 10 guys actively doing it on faceballs, and 3 gents here at anyone one time. There are still 1000:1 odds there is a still a Gen SBC in the next G-Body hotrod you see.

It still costs about $3000-5000 to properly swap in an LS.

Interesting you mention the Cruze diesel engine. I think it might be a little small for something like a G-Body (although it makes more power than most of the factory G-Body engines!) But what I think would be a really cool swap into the G-Body would be that 2.8L Duramax I-4 diesel out of the Colorado/Canyon. 181 hp, 369 lb-ft. Gets around 30 mpg in the trucks, would probably get more than that in a G-Body!

For the Pan American Highway, we are looking a 45 mpg minimum (cruising down gravel roads @ 70mph), Diesel and about a 3,000lb RWD car that is cheap. rugged and has high ground clearance. Anybody can do it in an old Jeep Cherokee, we want to use a 70's/80's rwd car. The new Cruze Diesel makes 140 HP and 240 lb/ft of torque and weighs practically nothing (all aluminum) which will make for rear biased weight distribution for traction.

I'm thinking a good candidate might be an H-body car (Monza/Starfire/Skyhawk/Vega) small & light, assuming you can still find a good donor car. You might have to get a custom bellhousing adapter, since the Cruze is FWD. Other candidates are the third-gen Toyota Celica, fourth-gen Corolla, AMC Eagle (plenty of ground clearance on that one!), first-gen Nissan Maxima, or Chrysler M-Body (Dodge Diplomat, Chrysler New Yorker, etc.). Maybe even an E30 BMW or Mercedes 190.

200 miles range with only 36KWh in a 3500lb car does not compute. A Leaf's battery is about this size and they conk out after about 100 miles. A Bolt's battery is twice this size and can just manage 200 miles in real world driving.

Maybe unicorns and fairy dust are involved?
