Maybe others have done it but Mike P did it best.

I actually like the work put in to make the Regal a pedal car. That DOHC aluminum EFI V8 would be my choice big time over the usual LS swap EVERYONE does.

The Caddy V-8s also have a very unique loping kind of "blub-blub-blub" sound. Completely different from a SBC or BBC. This clip really captures the characteristic Caddy idle lope sound:

EVERYONE is doing it for a reason.
Yes, cheap and everywhere. Still not a fan of their weak low end torque, stock anyways.

Similar to the Olds V8, another reason I like the Olds V8, a unique mean exhaust note.

Kind of a trade-off for higher revs. The LS engines (stock) made more horsepower than the factory big blocks from the '80s and '90s, but made it a lot higher up the tach. I even noticed it between the Gen-III and Gen-IV engines. I have an '04 Avalanche with the LM7 5.3, the 4L60E and a 3.73 rear end, and it's actually pretty torquey for it's size. I've driven the GMT900 Avalanches with the 320-horse 5.3, and they actually feel softer low-end. I think it's a combination of them being heavier, having taller axle ratios, and the Gen-IV engines being tuned more for HP than torque.

The new Gen 5's are super impressive everywhere. I have drove a 03 and 04 1/2 ton and Avalanche a lot, along with a 2011 1/2 ton with a 6 speed auto. All were 5.3 powered. I miss my 94 Z71 with the Olds 350 on the sbc TBI with 307 5A heads, 204/214 cam, shorty headers and 2.25" dual exhaust. Stock stall converter, 4L60E and 3.73 gears with a taller tire than the LS powered trucks. Idle to 4000 it killed the 5.3's with stock TBI. With 454 TBI bigger bore base evener stronger when it worked right. Over 4000 rpm was the other way around.
