OK stope if I'm wrong because I probably am if the motor was misfiring in a way so the car would not start would advancing the timing catch the right cylinders to make the motor run like crap I do remember before I swapped a 6cyl out of my old camaro I made the engine run on 3 cylinders for like a month till it died! Thinking of changing the cap rotor and wires before I pull the distributor and start messing with the timing.

Here's a little tip: when you find your compression stroke on #1, set your initial timing on the timing pointer, then put the distributor in so that the rotor is pointing at the #1 terminal.
It doesn't have to point at the cylinder; people just found it easier that way. Any position can be #1 as long as that's where you start the firing order (this helps if you get a wire that starts to pull tight when moving the distributor around.

When I brought it up to #1 compression I set the timing mark at 0 as far as I could tell the rotor was right at the #1 terminal on the cap when I corrected the position of the distributor the motor did not like it at all I am gonna try and bring the distributor back one tooth and see what happens after plumber leaves

OMG!! Never having my 14 yr old help again lol he thought number 3 blowing on his hand was #1 compression I just did it myself with my finger over the hole 0'd it out holy SH*T I'm 180 off
