Re: 73 Rocket 350 into 87 Cutlass

Picking up an A4 intake from my part hording buddy on Tuesday and that got me wondering, just how much money do I have in this car so far?

87 Cutlass Supreme, low mileage 73 350 sbo and bop 350 trans, blue and silver engine paint, new Flowtech 31152FLT headers, new dip stick, new kickdown cable, oil change stuff, new trans fluid, antifreeze, drivers tail light extension, drivers tail light, oil, temp and volt gauges, new battery, two Flowmaster 942446 Super 44 mufflers, JEGS 30560 dual exhaust kit, new belts, metal for crossmember modification, interior trim paint supplies, new steering wheel, dash mat, flexplate dust cover, new wheels, tires and lug nuts, vinyl top delete parts, A4 intake, some new gaskets, other little misc. things and I'm right at 2900 into this car so far. Hoping another 1000 or so will finish all my carpet, headliner, body repair and exterior painting needs.

Funny, my Parents and I had about 4000 into an 84 Cutlass Supreme back in 2001 but it was not anywhere near as nice as this one will be at 4000 into it. Doing ALL the work yourself really keeps the cost down.

I got everything tore out of the Cutlass except front seats and carpet. Looking at everything were going to have to do to remove the vinyl top and make repairs to install the hard top parts. Tore apart the 84 front header panel I got and we are getting ready to start the body work soon. Took the last of the lower stainless off the car, the ones on the doors. I'd hope to have this car ready for a new color of paint by end of March. Also cleaned the grease of the A4 intake I got. I think I am going to sandblast it a bit to and get it looking really good

Idk if you did you're exhause yet, but you do not need to cut the second hump out. My car has had the same headers as you and true duals for almost 4 years now with a stock single hump th200 crossmember. When I did the exhaust I slightly (less than 1/2") flattened the top of my 2 1/2" exuast pipe where it went under the crossmember. Looking at it now, I probably didn't even need that. Definitely easier than notching the crossmember with no stuctural worries. Also, you will never feel the difference in performance from what I did.
