Still, we don't know what speed you were driving across or how far the distance was ....paying an escort $85 just to sit there though? Must be at least a 3 or 4 hundred an hour girl, if not more. Parts sales from the regal must be something godmkd
Found a toolbox I think I can live with. It's a Weatherguard extra wide box in black. I usually prefer the polished diamond plate but I think this should be easier to keep looking nice. It was on a pilot truck so its got some holes drilled in it for an antenna and a overheight sensor but they aren't very noticeable. Came with the tray, the hardware bin, and two keys. I think it was about $850 new, I paid $75. This thing is much nicer than any of the other boxes I've had before. Much sturdier and better constructed.
It's still diamond plate.
Get out some sanding equipment, strip er down, make it shiny, then clear over the metal.
Now, since I gave you the idea for free, it's up to you to make it happen.

I don't know, the ease of maintenance compared to a polished box is causing it to grow on me. Wouldn't be hard to pop the emblems and locks off and give it a coat of SEM trim black, probably would look close to new.
I just about gave one away that was off a ford. Got $10 for it. Would have given it to you if it had fit!
I know I discussed it early in this thread and I'm too lazy to go back and find the exact posts, but this truck had a bunch of aftermarket electronic accessories on it when I bought it. I removed all of them to clean up the wiring and make things a bit neater and less confusing until I got more familiar with the truck. Most of those things were obsolete junk and got tossed in the trash but one of them was a BD Diesel exhaust brake. These exhaust brakes aren't cheap and BD seems to be a reputable manufacturer in the aftermarket diesel world. It didn't work but I saved all of the components in case I ever decided to use it.
Today I pulled the box of parts out and gave them a look. It's a simple device; just spool valve activated by a tactile switch on the gas pedal that allows vacuum in or out of a canister that opens and closes a butterfly valve in the exhaust. This thing didn't work when I removed it and the most intricate component is the spool valve so I started by disassembling and cleaning it. It was in fact stuck. I used some light silicone grease on it and got it free and reassembled it. I installed everything with new wires and hoses and reused the hole that was already in the dash for the switch.
Sure enough it works. Flip the switch and it kicks on until you touch the throttle. Unfortunately these things don't work well with an automatic transmission, as most of the stopping energy is lost in the torque converter. The solution to that problem is the little black box in the bottom left corner of the first photo. It's a torque converter lockup controller, also made by BD. It was also on the truck when I got it. The sticker is mostly worn off so I can only read the last few digits of the part number. If I have some time this week I'll play with it and see if I can get it functioning.

Got ahold of the wiring diagram for the lockup controller. I'm going to give BD a call and see if they will sell me just the wiring harness and switch. Otherwise I'll have to make my own.
Called BD Diesel this morning. They were very helpful and they sold me a wiring harness for the Torqloc, should have it later this week.
Also took a ride out to the junkyard. They didn't really have anything new since the last time I was there but I didn't leave empty-handed. My driver's seat has two rips, one in each cushion. I didn't find a lower but I did get a good upper cushion. This one doesn't have lumbar support but that lumbar wasn't very useful anyways. They do repop the lower cushion and cover but I'm hopeful that I might find one in a junkyard eventually.
Oh yeah, the cap that was on this truck when I got it somehow wound up at the junkyard. I sold it to a guy on marketplace. Guess he didn't want it anymore.
