My recent negative Summit Racing experience

Summit is definitely changing. I had a credit on one of my charge cards, so I decided to treat myself to some goodies, specifically a Vintage Air heater unit for my El Camino project. Popped onto the website, added to cart, checkout, oh, wait, the billing address is wrong. Tried to change it, and nothing would happen. No problem, the sales guys are always really helpful. Called and got a very enthusiastic young man, until I said the word "online." I was told he can't help with online purchases, only real orders, here's the IT department. Hold, hold, hold, oh look, an Amazon banner ad for the exact same item, how weird. Girl picks up, I explain what's up, She takes a look, and between smacks of her gum, tells me since I used Paypal the last time I purchased from them, she can't fix it, I have to call Paypal. So I fixed it myself. Clicked on the Amazon ad, and had it on the way before she could say "its not my problem" for the 5th time. i can't say I won't use them again, but as a long time customer, I sure don't feel appreciated as much as I used to.

That's not just Summit. There are so many issues with the developments with online retail sales these days. It is all nuanced between brick and mortar, phone sales, their website, or using a third party retailer like eBay or Amazon all have different policies and personnel (each with it pros and cons). It is your responsibility as the consumer to be fully informed and all your Ts crossed/Is dotted before entering into a contract.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in on this. The main reason I posted it was to warn against using Summit's return label since it was a negative experience for me. I won't use it again.

I'm pleased to report Summit saw fit to refund my money on the three returned items. I don't know if they finally received the box, if they had it all along and didn't know who to credit, or if they just wanted to salvage the situation. I simply received an email stating I would be receiving a refund. I have no idea why it took them a week to respond to my last email where I said . I have no idea why my two prior emails went unanswered. In the end, they got it right, sort of. It was a negative return experience. I got my refund only because I was persistent and threatened to quit doing business with them. I'll give them credit for getting it right in the end but the customer service on this return event was not something they can be proud of.

I am once again a Summit Racing customer. I think less of them though. As I said before, I will not use their return label again.

They probably also have a PR department that monitors the web for posts like this..... 😉
My brother's first recommendation was to put it out on Social media. Other than this forum, I'm not on social media. I wondered if someone on here put it out there on Facebook or Twitter.

I placed my first order with Summit in 1993 and never had a problem with them. Jegs no problems. Ups and FedEx no problems
Usps lots of problems. Hope I didn't just jinx myself

Summit and Jegs has been good to me over the years. Its frustrating to hear that you've had issues. But at least they were eventually resolved. I do want to point out that I buy a lot of parts from Rock Auto and have been happy with them for the most part. The only issue I have is that they literally do not have any type of customer service by phone or online. They claim this to keep their costs down which I understand. But if I had the same issue you had with Summit what recourse would you have with Rock Auto?

Agreed about Rock auto. Plus if you buy something after 30 days you can't return it. I was assembling LS and timing chain I got from them was wrong and not my fault except it was past the 30 day limit. So I have a $50 paper weight
