Ok, that being said do you think the 350 is the correct choice for what I'm looking for? Really looking for consistent everyday driving as opposed to power and speed.
If thats the case, cheapest would be a used 4.3.

305 might be a good choice if you go used. Will give it more pep along with better mpg. And if you keep the TBI a 4.3 has the same injectors as 350 so it'd be slight tb upgrade for the 305. And a Lotta places you can get a 305 nearly free

I looked on Car-part.com in your area, (PA) and there are several used ones to choose from around $300 to $400 for the 4.3 which would get you going as a DD sooner than later.

The 4.8 & 5.3 Vortec IS NOT THE SAME AS A 350 Vortec or any 350 for that matter. You want a Gen 1 small block or a replacement 4.3.

The 4.3 isn't a bad daily driver engine if you're not worried about going fast. It's kinda torquey.

In my experience a used 4.3 ends up still costing more. Newest direct swap 4.3 is 22 years old. Also 4.3 s10s(likely donor) tend to be some of the most abused vehicle's. Basically a used 4.3 is a timebomb

I was thinking,smallest labor costs.

Only difference in labor is about 30 mins to swap motor mounts

Then I agree with your post, for getting a used 305. Usually cheap, good on gas,and able to get something a little newer.
