are you sure the distributor itself isn't the problem?....if you have another distributor that you know is good I'd try that. Plus I'm sure your aware that cam has to be broken in properly or it'll be ruined.

Make that "turn the crank 360 degrees", then drop the distributor in. When you line them up dot-to-dot, the number one cylinder is at tdc on the exhaust stroke. One full rotation of the crank will put it at tdc on the compression stroke, which is where you want it to be when you drop the distributor in.
