Hey everyone, just purchased my '86 Monte Carlo SS yesterday. 130k miles on her, she comes home next weekend so I can enjoy some drive time before a good tear down over the winter.

bottom of the doors and the back of the drivers side rear wheel arch are rotted so fixing those along with a fresh coat of paint will complete the body work. I don't plan on doing much in the way of modifying anything exterior wise.

the drivetrain... up in the air. I have a 454 mated to a th400 with a spun crank bearing that with some machine work and a 496 kit could be fun, or drop a real small block in, or go LS route plus maybe some boost. I've got a couple of months before the car goes in for the winter to figure out what i want to do.

Now to browse the suspension section and see what good routes there are to take down that route. Just looking to build a fun street driver to take the lady and kid in or go blast around and roast some rubber on my own!

i plan to! i usually document anything i build. last project was a 1995 BMW 325 with a huge holset turbo on it, ended up parting that out after a couple of years and now onto this. Just got a tig welder so expect some "hey look at my failure on building headers" or "hey look at this body panel i did a terrible job welding in" posts also haha

Welcome to the forum. Nice looking SS. I've got rust in the same spots on my '86 non SS Monte Carlo. You'll find lots of useful information here.

Yyyeeeeehaw! finally got her home around midnight last nice. Got my whole plan figured out for the direction she's going, but for now it's burnouts til it snows! Pardon my parking job trying to unload the car off the trailer at midnight without waking my sleeping child who's room is next to my driveway haha. Swapped the starter while waiting for the trailer last night, put a battery in her this morning and fired her up and she's a runner. Now to start the rehab.

Burnouts until it snows is a great plan. I got mine home Oct 29th 2010. It had a sluggish 6 cyl, a dying fuel pump and 2.41 gears. No burnouts that fall for me. I was lucky to not die in traffic.

Welcome bulletholez, we get a convert. Swapping a BMW for a G car. Ya got more mass now & less expensive parts(?) maybe. I think you'll like it over the long haul. Worst case, you either could move up to a foreign GM automobile like a Holden or back to smaller engines in something with less weight. I personally like the 3500 lb G body cars, as heaver vehicles just don't seem responsive (fast) enough for me. And lighter-small automobiles usually don't have room for light weight V8's (yes I know Camaro's & Nova's are out their)? Ok I admit it I'm a V8 kinda guy, Ol'e Bob.
