the bmw got sold to a buddy that's putting the built 5.0 out of his 84 mustang in it! so that's converting also. just got a hit on a 5.3 with a 4l60 for well under $1000, so i guess my drivetrain is decided. heads cam intake and build over the winter, slay the 305 for a couple months then spring time make this a machine!

A 5.3 with better heads, cam and intake should be a strong engine. Are you wanting to go carb or stick with the EFI?

Nice looking Monte...welcome to gbf...since your going with the 5.3, you can just give me that bbc 🙂

going to stick with the EFI to keep it reliable and easy, plus i may throw boost at it eventually if i get bored of it, and i have very limited carb experience but a ton of EFI and tuning experience, no pro by any means but that BMW put me thru my paces.

jBreu come and take it haha has a spun crank bearing and could use new cam bearings, the amount of machine work it needs would cost more than the 5.3.

budget building this. aiming for about $6500 at the end of it including the car, new brakes, suspension, wheels and tires, paint, and the bolt on built 5.3. tempting to take this HX35 i have sitting on the basement and just plop that on there since when i do the fuel system for the 5.3 i'll be doing an A1000 to support any future mods anyway.

question for everyone now, how do the rear ends hold up in these cars? if i go the 28 spline axle route will i be good with my low 400 horse setup? or should i just start looking to upgrade right away.

Many say it depends on if the car is going to hook up or not. The 8.5 is a nice upgrade, and that's what I have in my car, but folks are saying they are getting hard to find. You could always go with an 8.8, a 9" or a 12 bolt.

well started on the paint repair. quick sand/primer/spray paint job til i get it in my buddy's body shop, i'll finish up tomorrow ran out of sanding discs hahaha. got her registered and took her on the maiden voyage today! forgot how much of a slug the 305/2004r is hahaha

Excuse the late welcome, but welcome aboard! Nice looking Monte.
Looks like you're making a lot progress with the car. I think you're going to like the LS engine and 4L60 in there.
I'll take the slug 200-4R off your hands...😀

Btw, I recall seeing a BMW 325 at the track some years back with a blown Chevy smallblock.

Welcome, like someone said, posts lots of pictures.
I do lots of reading here and enjoy it so much !

Welcome to site from Ga. There are tons of great information here, and lots of support. That MC is nice!
