Do you mean a spring loaded belt tensioner? All of the 90's GM serpentine setups that I've ever seen have a spring loaded tensioner.
yes but i meant in the form of aftermarket whole kit. I know i could pull it off of a 90s car potentially.

looks like the guy had aftermarket filters in the fenders...I gotta take a better look.

Just seen this - nice car!

As much as I prefer home built motors, the BluePrint 383 is tough to beat for the price. I seen you mentioned a 750 carb and you intend to street drive it - if you could find a 3310 Holley then it would work great.

Regarding the current engine, if it's a 305 and seized it's most lilely worth scrap price and if it's a 350 and seized it's might be worth $100-300 depending on the heads that are on it.

One last thing, since you don't know the history of the car, do yourself a favor and drop and flush the fuel tank - god knows what's in there.

plan on dropping the tank.

I might do an LS motor possibly not really sure.

The motor is ready to be pulled pretty much.

I am debating just grabbing a new built warrantied trans when the time comes... so now my car has TH350 , but should I do a TH400? also how come you can only get a trans brake with a full manual valve body? which I wouldn't mind doing except that its a column shift and that would be a real PITA, if it was a floor shift different story, I might convert it to floor shift eventually but not now.

BTW i spent some time at work pulling all the old crap out and pretty much once i disconnect the trans (well really have to disconnect the converter since its locked up and i cant spin the motor) i can pull it.

anyone have some tips on how to clean up the engine bay? I planned to power wash it all out, then spray the exposed frame, radiator support, etc with some sort of rust protectant paint maybe PR15 or whatever...

also what do most people do when it comes to the factory wire harness? Obviously I need the alternator wire, and the ignition wire and starter wire and such, but what about the remaining harness... being an LS guy , chopping up a harness is a no no but is it different since this is a carb car??

so the more i sit and think, the more I lean towards a junkyard LS build, 5.3, 5.7, 6.0 whatever i get my hands on.

it makes sense financially and they make alot of power and can handle serious abuse.

going to see a 5.3 tomorrow from a yard we frequently get motors from at work... 700 bucks with coil packs, I have another 3 5.3s in the shed at work that my boy is building for diff things so I am going to use the accessory drive off of that.
