Yup that curved shape around the impeller that directs the air is called the volute. This is the factory Heat-only box in my SS, notice how it's shaped.

Ok i gotcha. Damn i wish i knew that before i went with the box i have.

Is the squirrel cage enclosed inside the volute or is it more or less of just the exposed shape of it that directs air towards the heater core?

I could probably roll a piece of sheet metal around the squirrel cage inside my box if that is the right idea?

That cage has to be inside of it and the volute is built around it. Like a turbo or any other pump.
Understood. Should it be closed off, where the “face” of the squirrel cage is? Or is the strip of metal around the perimiter of the squirrel cage (as drawn) sufficient?

Its needs an opening so air can come in to be blown through it
Gotcha. So like this then. Does it just draw fresh air from the box or elsewhere? There is a cabin door that opens when i turn lever to max ac. Other than that the box is completely closed.

That mesh screen along the windshield is the inlet for the box, how mine is anyway
So, that’s another thing I don’t have. Its just a solid box. Should there be an opening on the top? I could drill a series of holes. Of course then it would just fill with water.

Have to take a good look at it and see if it pulls air from the interior and Outside somewhere..there's a door for that too.
Would anybody know the vaccuum lines by color? RED line goes to a canister up in drivers side that I cannot see. I believe a door may be shut.

YELLOW controls a door behind heater core which appears to divert air UP (possibly defrost) or DOWN (possibly floor) although it appears to be normally DOWN.

I cant get air anywhere. As a makeshift test I made a small metal cone and taped it to my blow gun attachment and pointed it at the heater core. Cant get any trace of air.
