It is definately the types of gaskets that people use to build engines. Rope seals don't leak if there done right. the two piece rubber seals for rear mains work great too. i have the 460 seal on my 455. I use Rtv on all my engines for the front and rear of the intake ridges. as well as making sure that your surfaces are flat and clean.

If your engine is leaking after a fresh rebuild.... you should look for a new builder.

what are your thoughts on rubber vs cork?

dont over tighten the valve cover nuts and use these:

Always had good luck with basic cork gaskets and a thin bead of RTV on both sides of the gasket. Never had a leak with them.

Me too. Cork with RTV to glue it to the covers, that way they come off and on pretty easy.

I have always had good sealing with the 3 layer ones with the built in grommets at each hole to keep you from overtightning do not need any glue with these and they dont leak & if you use studs(about $5.00) instead of of bolts it makes it so easy & to take off and on also, but the cost is about 30 dollars (FELPRO)from the parts store, Summit I think about 20.00,Really Like the one piece pan gasket with studs also.
Good luck !!

I switched to cork after have a similar issue with my 350. Since then had no leaks

already had new rubber gaskets so i used it...but if it happens again. im def going with cork..

@beermonkey, what are those things??? never seen them before. are they for SBC or SBO?
