I need a judgment call: after removal, it does sound weird bouncing it on the floor. What do the pro wrenches think about this?

I don't think so. I cleaned it up with a RoLoc, and it went away. I think it was just a shitty Cad plating job.
I drained the oil, and it had some fine glitter to it, but not enough to catch in a paint strainer. I guess I'll drop the pan, and wiggle some rod ends. I'm done for the day, though.
 
Did the Series 2 engines have an issue with pumping the sump dry during sustained high RPM's?

Normally, I'm not sure it's a problem but I've seen a couple so sludged up that I can certainly see that it's a possibility.
