are the crankshafts the same, and it's just the pistons that are different? or is the entire longblock the same? I always thought the compression would be slightly lower on the s/c due to the boost...

The supercharged is alleged to have a stronger crank and rods, but a point lower compression. I would think the pistons are different to accomplish that. The heads may be different, as well as the cam. The block casting number is the same; I don't know what year this one is. I need to do some research before I get too crazy.

Well, damn. Just did some poking around on the interwebs, and am now faced with a conundrum: to 'charge or not to 'charge. I'm thinking I'll leave that up to the new owner (it could be YOU!). I was going to put the L36 (n/a, 9.4:1) pistons in the L67 (s/c, 8.5:1), and roll from there. HOWEVER, the L67 has beefier wrist pins and crank in addition to shorter rods , so I can't do that. I'm just going to have to lose a point of compression.
There's a bunch of fab work that has to be done to get the blower on there (Holden intake elbow, possible firewall clearancing, TB adapter, etc), and I am just not that into it. I'm sure it can be done; just not by me at this juncture in life.

Could probably sell the supercharged engine and pay for the na and a few new parts to make sure it's solid.

Or LS swap it....

With the difficulties in adapting the supercharger inlet, this would lend itself to a turbo more easily. I'll get it in there, and someone else can add the boost. The bottom end will be there, and the heads will be swapped (injector bosses machined on the s/c heads) to n/a. All it will need is the turbo and piping.

I don't want to mess with the one that spun the bearing because it's more than likely full of metal...

I'd consider trying to trade the SC one for an NA longblock. Without the forced air it's going to feel anemic and get less mpg than the original engine. I totally understand the temptation to run it since it was free but I think you're selling yourself short.
There's bound to be someone out there looking to upgrade to a supercharged 3.8 willing to trade away their NA.
