My parts washer drum had holes in the bottom, so my neighbor donated one he had in his shed. I just need to cut it it down a bit.

Still waiting on the piston rings

I've pretty much made my mind up that I'm going to put some gear in the combo. The Firebird had 3.42s and claimed 30mpg on the highway. That's with a 235/60-16; I have 225/60-16s which are shorter. After playing around with an online calculator, it looks like 3.23s will put me within 5 rpm of the Firebird combo at 80mph. Thoughts?
As seen in the "What did you do" thread, it's getting close to going back together; I'm just waiting for the torque converter to drain at this point.

The 3.23 looks like a good choice to me. With your tire size and 0.7 overdrive ratio you should turn 2441 RPM at 80. What gear is in the car now? If you still have the 3.42 it wouldn't be terrible. 2554 RPM at 80 and the extra gear to get the car moving would help the 3.8 so it doesn't have to work so hard. Either would be a vast improvement over a 2.41 if that's what you have.

Yup, 2.41 now. It's a commuter, so I want to get the best mileage out of it I can. I thought the 2.41s would be good on the highway, but as soon as the car even sees a hill, it's downshifting and zinging the engine to the moon. I'm hoping to maintain the performance level of the Firebird minus the aero.
