Our 79 Monte Carlo- Pro Touring Project

how did the monte do against your mustang?

Well this is hard to say, the Mustang ran into major clutch issues after just two sessions. We are not sure what went wrong yet, it is very disappointing since the car has such low miles and hasn't gotten abused a lot yet. So we didn't get a real chance to try the Mustang out. The times we did get to run it it felt great, we had a little front end push but again no time to make adjustments.

That is a great facility!!! I wish we had something like it here in Florida. Nothing like a road coarse with elevation!

It is a pretty fun track for sure! Nothing is better than some road course racing 🙂

The sanction was from Bob Bertelsen/Orange Cone Racing, so we had a bit of leeway - more than usual on open track days.

We were allowed to pass on the straights with a wave around. Basically if you set someone up in the corner they were courteous enough to know that, and wave you around on corner exit.

Also, we went in waves so each group kind of knew where they stood. The Green Machine was plenty fast in-group but of course didn't have the legs of an LS-7 5th Gen Camaro on slicks. Until next season...

Those new camaros are quick but they are heavy. They say they can handle 1.05 g in a turn but I have not seen or heard what they do on a slalom...and then there is those blind spots in a camaro that can be used to their disadvantage. That chevelle wagon looked like it going good.

Wow- It looks like it has been August since we last updated this thread. Time flies when you are having fun!

Well the time has come to start preparing the Monte for the 2014 race and show season so the updates should start rolling in now.

Recap: For the 2013 season we spun a bearing in the motor, so our plan for 2014 is to install a 400 we have sitting around. While we run the 400 we will repair the old motor and we plan to make it a 383 stroker. We will post more details on this as we start taken the car apart.

For now though we did start getting some new parts for the Green Machine. We are installing a Flowmaster 2.5" stainless system with the 44 series Delta Flow mufflers along with Flowmaster's D-port x-pipe. The D-port x-pipe is designed to bump up low and mid range torque. I posted a few pictures below, more to come when we install the system. It looks awesome. Flowmaster also has G-Body headers in the works we are hoping to try out soon.
