Our 79 Monte Carlo- Pro Touring Project

So your using GM metric front calipers on it instead of the smaller 80's Cadillac E-body rear calipers with the parking brake actuators ?

Yes. The previous owner cut the parking brake pedal out of the car with a sawzall or something. So we went the less expensive route and did the Speedway kit.

Tell me more about the smaller caliper you mention. Do you know the rear piston diameter?

79-85 Cadillac Eldo and Seville rear caliper. These cars were equipped with a single bore master Cyl. The parking brake actuators adjusted the rear calipers to reduce the take up.

Hmm, very interesting little part. I like the parking brake.

With a 54mm bore, the piston sq inch size is 3.55 and the PBR 'Vette caliper is 3.993 sq in.

3.55/3.993 = 0.889 or 89%

The CTS caliper I'm looking at should put us closer to 50%. I'm trying to find the piston area now...

2010 CTS V rear caliper http://www.rockauto.com $141.00 They do show several brake options for the CTS but all of them are multi piston calipers.

32/25.4 = 1.2598
1.2598 / 2 = 0.6299
0.6299^2 x pi = 1.2466

28/25.4 = 1.102
1.102 / 2 = 0.5512
0.5512^2 x pi = 0.9544

1.2466 + 0.9544 = 2.201 sq in

2.201 / 3.993 = 0.551 or 55.1%

That's pretty sweet!

Glad I could help, I think

I really appreciate that UMI is basically funding the testing ground for the G bodies. Many of us can't afford to test products to see what the results are and we don't have a facility to test them to begin with. I know the guys at UMI have fun doing it and they will be making money with their products but they show us what works and how it works. We owe them thanks for letting us in on their tests cause it saves us money and time. Ramey knows what r&d costs with his circle track car and the time we all spend with testing our race cars. I can sit here, read up on what's going on with the green machine and learn a few new things while working on a beer... 🙂
