Our 79 Monte Carlo- Pro Touring Project

Does your coil over conversion kit work with the mustang 8.8 rear end ?

I would say most likely no. Our coilover bracket is designed to fit the factory housing. The only way it would work is if the brackets on your 8.8 are identical to General Motors.

Hey, did you guys go ahead and switch to 3.23 out back? I have my rear end out [actually have since like Oct but that is a long story] to get it blasted and coated and was going to swap my 3.73s for 3.42s but running the numbers I am thinking 3.23 might be a better idea? Seems like we almost talked about this 10-20 pages ago but not sure you ever said for sure what you guys are doing?

Have you guys at UMI considered to change the front upper control arm mounting bracket so you can use equal an length control arms. GM put the mounting bracket on an angle and used an offset control arm to prevent the car's nose from diving when the brakes are applied. As you know cars handle better in the corners if you can plant the nose and keep it there until you are exiting the corner. When we raced G bodies in circle track were were not permitted to change the suspension pick up points or move the engine back to help with the weight bias.

When I notched the frame in my wagon, with trimming the lip, and a notch to the seam, all I had to do was massage the inner wheel wells flat and I run a 315-35-17 Nitto NT555 no problem.

Pfft! I cut the wheel wells right out and mini-tub ours... 345s here we come!

Also, UMI needs to sponsor the front end of our wagon to match the back. 😉 Love the Monte!

Any more pics of the F14's on the car?

We had a good time at Putnam Park for the Midwest Musclecar Challenge until the stock 7.5" exploded. I'll post details on that soon. We are still in evaluation mode.

In the meantime, here's some video from the front bumper cam. First session was a 1:22.9 which held strong in Intermediate through most of the day. Many were surprised at the time.

Great video and thanks. Are you not permitted to pass, that guy in the Vette sure liked to use his brakes. I like how you caught the Le Mans after the Camaro got out of the way, you were quicker in the corners but he had the straight away speed. I'm not surprise you blew the stock 7.5 rear but it showed how durable it is even with the power of your engine and a stick.

That was actually our teammate in the C5. He won the division for the weekend and is an instructor there. He was just cruising...

The LeMans is 550 rwhp and I'm sure the Monte is a bit less. The Monte is a few hundred pounds lighter though. They're pretty evenly matched.

Fun stuff and a great way to prove out UMI parts.
