Our 79 Monte Carlo- Pro Touring Project

Awesome Video, I love watching you guys run the road courses! Its nice to know that UMI makes great products and tests them too!

How do you get in a Putnam Park? Im only an hr south of there and it looks like there schedule is mostly Club races. No way id ever be able to join a club like that

What I would recommend to do is a SCCA PDX time trial. Putnam says there is one on August 26th, but registration isn't open yet - usually this is about 1-2 months before. They are usually $150-$250 for a day. They have classroom session and 3 to 5 15-20 minute track sessions and an instructor rides along. You do a Novice session first. The instructor signs off for you to move to intermediate class for the next event and then you get signed off on that you can go on track solo. Passing is allowed with a point by in passing zones. Much of the novice session is to teach racing line, braking points, passing etiquette, looking down the road and watching the flag stations - they throw flags randomly to check your response - plan on getting black flagged for doing something wrong.

For safety, you need a Snell 2010 helmet or better (M or SA), but unless you have a convertible, no rollbar/harness is required. Even T-tops are considered hardtops.

That's very good information thank you! I wont have my Cutlass ready by then but I would like to take my Monte Carlo just to get some experience for when it is ready

Good info above. We go there as part of Midwest Musclecar Challenge presented by Bowler Transmissions. It is first come first serve on sign up and usually sells out on Christmas Eve day in less than 30 minutes. Crazy popular in the Pro-Tour world.

Looks like the Long Island Expressway, nothing but brake lights!!!!

275's on all four corners.

315's are next.

Should be pretty awesome. 🙂

Is that before or after a frame notch? (up front)
I was actually thinking about calling you guys after last weekend to try and talk to someone about front wheel fitment on the Green Machine. With 255s on an 8 inch wheel w/ 4.5" backspace I rub the frame pretty noticeably. (And apparently also the lower A-arm at times.) I had a good suggestion to add my own steering bump-stops. Do you do anything similar with the Monte Carlo? Also, what backspacing do you use and do you use spacers at all?

That was actually our teammate in the C5. He won the division for the weekend and is an instructor there. He was just cruising...

The LeMans is 550 rwhp and I'm sure the Monte is a bit less. The Monte is a few hundred pounds lighter though. They're pretty evenly matched.

Fun stuff and a great way to prove out UMI parts.

I wasn't thinking when I posted my comment, you do time trials so I should have known those were laps you were running so I retract my comments about the Corvette. As far as the Corvette goes that model was one the last great looking ones before they ruined the look of the Corvette.
