Overheating olds

When I put my motor back together it was overheating also... What I found out that I had no t-stat, from what you've stated so far I would change the the t-stat. I would also change the water pump $35.00 and about 30 min 1hr of work and that should correct the overheating issues.

Cant tell the actual temp as my gage doesnt work but the thing is pretty hot, ill be picking up another thermostat and water pump and clutch fan tonight and flush the coolant system and see if that helps

Why change the water pump if it is functioning and not leaking? Only reason too is if you just feel like doing so for preventative measures.

pretty hot is a relative term...I suggest you get an accurate temperature so you know what your dealing with before you start throwing parts at it

OK,is it me or is the OP's original description not sound like a cooling issue at all but rather a sticking TCC solenoid in the transmission?

84dragcutlass, fix your temp gauge pronto.

Yes it does sound like a sticking TCC. The 307 may be getting warmer then it should but no servere over heating.

Yep it's the switch!

im probably gonna look like an idiot in the end of this. Ive been working on the temp gage but i think im gonna have to get a new cluster. Printed circuit seems ok but i think its just the main gage, more than one dont work. Ive never concidered the switch, mainly put the transmission aside since it shifts so good just running around. Until you drive for a long distance (20-25 min) clutch fan does seem to be bad, you could stop it with a twig. So the general agreement seems to be that the clutch fan is bad and that the tcc switch is bad. Keep in mind ive only just bought this car so past experience with it isnt there
