Another race in the books, cannot seem to catch a break in this class

heat race ended in a fight between a friend of mine and another guy, track supposedly threw the other guy out because he started it, along comes to feature and the guys still at the track and runs the race, worst part is because I am in with the guy the trouble maker has a problem with, we go out on the track with 3 different cars gunning for us, racing rough is fine but actually trying to take us out is ridiculous

and the kicker, I started the feature third row inside, in front of and next to the cars trying to take me out(i did nothing wrong in the heat race, never touched a single car) coming down the back straight waiting for the green to drop in turn 4, the black number 0 is trying to beat my back bumper off, and the yellow 03 keeps coming down further, green drops and the demolition derby is on, no point in trying to pretend it was a race

I finally got away from them clean enough, and started t get into the groove and actually race, passed a few cars and was sitting in 3rd behind my friend in the 35 car, first place car got loose and we both went low to avoid him, I ended up tagging him in the drivers door and bending a tie-rod end, caution came out and I knew something was wrong, car was pulling hard to the left but I could still drive it, green comes back out and I fire but the slipping clutch combined with the bent suspension slowed me down quite a bit, dropped back to 5th and the 0 car tried to turn me into the wall, another caution for him spinning me.. and they LEAVE HIM BEHIND ME in the lineup... incredible, last week they sent me to the back, and I didn't do it on purpose, coming out of the turn

next green comes out and the 0 car gets around me, car in front of him spins down in front of me and I had no where to go, not a very hard impact with him but we got tangled up and I did my tie-rod in for good, 2 laps to go and I had to pull off the track, I don't blame the guy who spun for anything, thats just racing and mistakes happen

but everything else that happened puts a VERY bad taste in my mouth, all the fighting in the pits, the threats from all the loudmouthed bumpkins, needless to say I was very disappointed with the tracks "officials" and the whole night in general, I am very close to building a big battering ram of a car and driving through them every weekend until the get the picture

this may have been a bit of a rant, I am still angry even after taking out a lot of aggression on the sheet metal of my car, major right front sheet metal and bumper damage, but thats easily replaced, didn't get the frame at least, wish I could say the same for my radiator

That's just wrong for the officials to do nothing. We raced at tracks like that and that ruins it for guys who came to race. What's the race director of the track like? I'd be having a conversation with him about what's going on.

for your bent tie rod we always had a spare set up with the two tie rods and the adjuster set up to match what we had on the car. In a race you can't do anything but if it happens in the heat it helps out. And we had spare spindles cause steering arm bends easy

and we had a nice big decal on the back of our car "DON'T BE A DICK"

Sorry to hear about your trouble ReQ.

I agree with GP. You should be allowed to go out and race. Not bash, just race. Tell them you spent a lot of time setting up your car properly and you want to put on a good show for the fans.

If they know you'll take your $ and fans elsewhere maybe they'll enforce things a bit better.

Been a few weeks since my last update I suppose, my job finally started so I have been pretty busy, and we had 2 weeks off for "speed week" and the Daytona 500 etc.

over the break I swapped my 3 speed out for an automatic, I was able to remove almost 170lbs of lead, discovered my clutch had been slipping the whole time, the throwout bearing was too long and keeping pressure on the clutch causing it to slip, put a new brake booster back on the car as well, just about had to learn to re-drive it with the new brakes, before I had to stand on them to stop, now I just rest my foot on the pedal and that combined with the new found engine braking is enough for the turns

swapped springs in the front as well, 900LF 1000RF and slightly taller, made a huge difference combine with the large sway-bar, felt like a different car Saturday night, drew outside pole in my heat race, ran off with the race, only slightly eventful in the first 3 laps due to the first place car trying to take me out, but he ended up in the infield and then lapped by me in the heat race

started outside pole in the feature as well, got slotted back into 5th place on the start, got into 4th after a few laps then got blocked the whole race by a slower car, had a few chances to get under him but everytime I did he came down on me so I stayed on him waiting for a mistake that never came, so I finished fourth pushing the third place car all around the track

I got paid for third however, first place car got D/Qed, finally ha a decent week, one good bump in the heat race, and one tap from a buddy in the feature, trying to get me to bump the third place car  I would have if he wasn't such a jerk, didn't want to spoil my first good night with any drama because I touched his car

Congrats on the 3rd place finish, sounds like you had a good nite at the track and I take it the natives calmed down for the nite. Did you have to go through tech for taking 3rd and if so how did that go. Do they say anything about bump and run at that track. Your going to end up being dumped if you don't get around a slower car. If they don't want to move our driver taps them a few times and if they don't get the hint it's oh well and he moves them cause if he doesn't he gets sh*t in the pits when he gets dumped by the guy behind him...

If I had of bumped him to move him, or even just letting him know I am faster and want by, he would of turned me into the wall when I went around, just the way that guy is, rubbing is only racing when he does it, bump him and he takes it as a threat

this track is not suppose to tolerate "rough" driving, but they let a lot slide, had it been a different driver, I could of gotten away with getting him loose and going by, unless he lost it and spun.. which is typical in this class full of inexperienced drivers

I had a friend behind me while that car was holding me up, so I wasn't too worried about being moved, and he was in no danger either since the 5 of us were lapping the other half of the field, the car holding us up was only slower because we were behind him, sounds a bit arrogant but that's how it is right now lol shedding almost 200lbs and getting rid of my front end push has made my car very fast now, just gotta get lucky in a feature, in this class luck outweighs talent for the most part

I did not have to go through tech, in this class even if they DQ the top 3, they just automatically pass the positions onto the next 3 cars and do not tech them, as for what they checked, last race all they checked was carburetors and this week they checked valve springs and cam lift, and unfortunately they changed cam rules for this year, and mine is illegal, 450 lift and we are only allowed 390/410

probably going to swap out my cam for something like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HRS-112711-08/

any experience with this brand? legal for this class due to the lift rule, and has a good duration/powerband for this car and track, they actually have a few different specs that would all work pretty good, and actually on paper, better than my current cam

That is a low lift...can you run vortec heads? they do well with a low lift. I havn't had any experience with that cam but from the literature with it it seems like the right choice. What's your revs at the end of the straight? Don't suppose you have an tire temps and how was the car rotating the corners?. For the bump and run it really upset a car if you set him up for a lap or two and get him to drive deep into the corner entrance and then hit him hard enough to get the weight off his front wheels when he's entering the corner and he'll shoot up the track. Alot of times with the hard tap his foot will lift the brake pedal for a second and it looks like he just lost it and slides up the track..the next time he might be more willing to give up one spot instead of a bunch

We are not allowed to run vortec heads unless the car came with a vortec engine, in which case, we can run the fuel injection as well, hell.. we can run an LS1 or a ford 4.6 mod, if we build a car that came with the engine, which is what I am currently hunting, a Camaro with an LS1, or a Lincoln mark VII with a DOHC v8

anyway, had another eventful night of racing, started pole in my heat race, fell back into second since I didn't have the motor to pull with the cheater next to me, about 4 laps in someone starts trying to knock my back bumper off and finally turns me, this was not bumping either, this was driving into the turn and slamming, same dirty driver that put my buddy into the wall the very first race of the season, they sent him to the rear and put me back in second

2-3 laps into the race start someone turns me again but I held it fell in behind the same dirty driver, coming down into turn 3 I drove into him and turned him, they black flagged me and sent me to the pits, I didn't mind too much since the fence was lined with people cheering for me cause I stood up to him, not to mention he was escorted from the racetrack by the police after the first heat, for fighting in the pits with another guy he took out, I ended up finishing 7th in the feature, the car was doing ok but I had some bad luck, I am third in points though :D

as for tire temps, I still don't have any, I am such a procrastinator with this car, it seems to be working really well now so I have not touched it in 2 weeks, other than maintenance type stuff and tire pressures, I am running 40 right side, 30 left and that seems to do pretty well, gotta keep enough air in these tires so they do not roll over, 40 is about what I have been running on the right, but my left side was rolling it turns out, so I bumped it up and it has helped the car turn

the front tires are not screaming through the turns now, I just get a chattering in the right front coming out of the turns but no push, I guess that is just the limits of adhesion for these crappy street tires

that makes it a good nite of racing...they'll soon get the message that you can drive and don't mind giving out paybacks so when the racing gets a bit more intense later in the season nites like this one pays you back. You still finished in 7th and 3rd over all is really great for the first year in that car. As for the tire temps it's harder to set the tires up when they are street tires and the tread pattern on those tires will give you a good indication of how they are wearing..

Good job on putting the car back on the trailer in one piece, again! That's always a victory in itself.

We ran a year in street tire when I first started. The trick was to run a worn out tire with a low tread wear number. I ran Bridgestone RAZ's. Tread squirm is evil, which is why a slick works on dry pavement. More rubber on the road.

More soon
