If in fact your computer is still running your car, It's not quite as easy as just throwing another distributor in it. Your carb and transmission (I'm assuming you have the 200r4) will be looking for the computer to tell them what to do. It sucks. But to properly eliminate the computer controlled distributor you'll need a different carb and a torque converter lockup controller.

well, it has a holley on it now thats no computer controlled...
I am starting to think this is a no win battle, this ol' car has too much missing and what is there is not that great (only talking about the computer control stuff) maybe a converter lockup kit and the other distributer is the way to go at this point.

I just went back and looked at your pic's again. That's a Holley carb, therefore not computer controlled. So do you not have an o/d transmission??? If that's the case yeah you can swap distributors. What exactly are you trying to do with it? You mentioned being interested in a computer controlled carb and the computer. But if in fact this isn't the original motor it won't work for ya due to misc sensor differences (that being the motor probably doesn't have them). In any case if your just trying to get it to run good and have more power I'd start by getting rid of as much smog stuff and everything that has to do with the computer (providing you live in a place where you can do it)

I was trying to do it back original, but I am finding that is is tough to do. I have to drive this car in the mean time.
I think maybe I'll un computerize it, all the smog stuff is already gone, then later when I know more about it all I'll try again to go original.

I do have a 200r4.
What makes folks think this isn't the original engine? what did I miss...lol

I vote for the lockup kit and different distributor. Thats where I'd start. Summit and Jegs sell lockup kit's from tci, b&m and a couple other company's. I got a TCI in mine and it seems to work alright.

Somewhere earlier in this thread someone mentioned that it may have been swapped at one time. I guess I just assumed. 😳

That one I can't help you on. Olds guy's???? You'll probably need to figure out the engine code though. Let me see if I can redirect you to a engine code site. Be right back.
