I look for the VIN for the 5ft letter, but I couldnt see nothing.

Looks like you have the redheaded stepchild of the Pontiac family, the dreaded 301.

The poor 301 never had a chance in those 4500# barges.

Save the mounts and put a 455 in. :D

they were still putting 400's in for '77, dunno if the 301 was even an option yet. VIN would help.

Its mark that the 301 was standard for the LJ and the the stadard motor for SJ is a 400!

Not syre of the model break down ,but the "Y" code 301 was around in 77 putting out a neck snapping 135HP.

If yoy were to show a shot without the air cleaner,would could tell if it is a 301 or traditional Pontiac.

Also casting numbers off the exhaust ports would be a helpful clue.

1977 gp had 5 motor options...5th letter of vin# y=301 p=350pontiac r=350chevy z=400pontiac k=403olds(california models high emisssions) cleaning up gm parts last of big ones 77
