yeah stick to what i said. look for a monte SS rear. most came posi and with 3.73. that will up your performance on the street. you will see a major difference with acceleration but it will hurt you on the highway with MPG.

its cheaper and easier then replacing the posi unit in your car.

when you swap it out i would do the upper mount bushings and eventually do the upper and lower control arms.

for the 7.5 I have 3 series posi unit with 3.23 gears and I have 2 series posi that I have to rebuild with 3.08 gears...the weight of the posi with the gears is 34 lbs and the carrier alone is 22 lbs. It's $250 for the 3.23 gears and posi, $200 just for the posi and for the posi with the 3.08 $300 since it'll be a rebuilt with the gears or $250 posi alone....plus shipping of course

the units come with the backlash shims attached to the carrier on the side they were installed with so you have a good chance the backlash will be correct and the pinion bearing should be shimmed for the proper depth on 99% of the 7.5 rear ends. The new part you may want to get is the crush sleeve but the old one does come with the pinion.

i have a well used 7.5 gov lock posi unit with 3.42. that is just sitting in my garage. the clutches are going in it. still works most of the time. just swapped out for a 9". if near boston ma sell it to ya real cheep.

sh*te dude, you're selling that? I'm just down the road from you and I've been trying to get my hands on one!!! Obviously I'll take second dibs on it, but let me know I really want a posi rear for my regal. I'm stuck with these lame as 2.29 gears :evil:

ok guys imma see if i can find a parts car monte around but before all that rear end changing. i want to change smaller stuff. imma have to get that air filter, front/back sway bars. a couple of guages. then big time stuff. thanks for all your help.

I wouldn't trust the tag on a car that's decades old, who knows if the rear end was swapped out for something else...
