Positraction carrier stuck?

and hell, upon pulling out the old gears, i see that theyre 2.93s.... lol this seems like a huge waste of time...

the rear end i pulled it out of is one for an 83 caprice, a few inches too wide..
 
if you want to keep the same gears it's easy to switch out the posi if it's a 2nd series you have now...
 
just remove the carrier in there now and install the crown gear onto the posi carrier (bolts are left hand thread) and then install the posi carrier using the shims that you removed with the posi carrier...all you need to do is check the backlash (0.006 - 0.010) with a dial gauge. The backlash should be good but if not it's an easy adjustment with the shims
