Well my car has been doing fine, but it still seems to be boiling my fuel after I run it fairly hard. Last night I ordered the Edelbrock gasket from Summit. I will let you know how it works out when I get it on.

Well my problem is solved... well paritally solved. I was already running the thick quadrajet gasket under my adapter. But I had a starter laying around that came with the 350 I bought. The guy I bought it from said it was brand new, so I put it on the motor (had to get longer starter bolts). But the dragging, slow start, problem went away

You've just found the reason no one uses a 307 starter on anything but a 307. 😉 The 307 starter is physically smaller than other Olds starters but doesn't have the torque like the others.

I tried using my old 307 starter to turn over a fresh, 9.6:1 455 once in my '87. It turned it over once and started it once, although very slowly. Turned the engine off and tried to restart. Killed the starter right then and there.

Well I figured I would just update my situation, and let everyone know how my car has been doing. I now have around 3200 miles on my motor, and I drive it everyday just fine. My fuel boiling problem was resolved when I switched carbs. One day my edelbrock just crapped out on me. It flooded out on my while I was at a red light, and my car died. I got it pulled home because I couldn't get it back going. I played with the carb about two days, and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start.

I got tired of it, and ordered a Quadrajet offline. I bolted it on, and the car fired right up! It has been doing great ever since. I also bought a starter at the parts store that was supposed to fit a '72 455. I no longer have dragging starter issues to say the least. 😀 I was trying to see what my car could do one day, and my car died going down the road. That cheap chinese control module couldn't turn many rpm's apparently lol. So I just went to AutoZone, and bought a cardone HEI distributor. Had it put in, and set my timing around 12* I think it was.

With those three changes, I have been very satisfied with my car. I love driving it around, and I don't have to worry about it starting or dying on me at red lights. I appreciate all of your input trying to help me solve it.
