Problem with power door locks

My power door lock wont unlock the passenger door unless I go at it repeatedly. I want to just use the manual push/pull locks but I'm missing the passenger one and when I try to install one there's nothing in the hole for it to grab onto. Any ideas what I can do? Why wont the ones I bought from autozone work? Are they not long enough to reach the threads in the door? How long are the oem ones? Thanks in advance for any help!

It could be the rod is bent so it doesn't come up through the opening like it should. If you remove the door panel you'll see what the problem is.

Yes, or missing completely for some reason. Mine stick out well above the top with or without the knob.
